The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency with which students use math word problem strategies during and after schema-based instruction. It examines the extent to which students increase their ability to correctly solve word problems. It compares students’ attitudes toward mathematics problem solving before and after schema-based instruction. The study was conducted in a resource class with seven second-grade students on individualized education programs (IEPs). A single-subject research design was used. Colorism is defined as discrimination within one group or race, and can negatively impact academics, behavior, and a child’s, development, particularly among black males. Using data derived from a real-time focus group experience, this session will address strategies for improving retention and recruitment of minority faculty members and students at institutions of higher education. This focus group was comprised of alumni minority students from a rural university. The questions for this group were composed by faculty members trying to ascertain the perceptions of the minority students. The data collected provided answers to the proposed questions, but revealed information validating the experiences of other minority stakeholder groups and the impact to programs. Public schools use standardized testing to measure students’ academic achievement at the conclusion of each school year. Students with severe cognitive disabilities are evaluated through the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA). The purpose of this descriptive study was to describe the demographic characteristics of students who took the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) and students who took the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment (EOG) in English/Language Arts using publicly available data from the 2014-2015 academic year. Performing Identities Of The Auditory-Verbal Deaf Students In The Classrooms: A Teacher's Performative Memoir, Tracy Edenfield

My dissertation, that incorporated performative storytelling and dance, is a memoir reflecting over fifty years of my lived experiences related to deafness as a multidimensional illustration that spans from my experience as a young child with a family member affected by Usher’s Syndrome; as an educational sign language interpreter; as a teacher of the deaf (TOD); and as an early intervention auditory-verbal therapist. Theoretically, my dissertation builds upon critical pedagogy (e.g., Baglieri & Shapiro, 2012; Freire, 1970/2009; McLaren & Crawford, 1998) and disability studies (e.g., Davis, 2002; Goodley, 2011; Siebers, 2008; Kitchens, 1998).
