This study was designed to investigate the perceptions of secondary level teachers, principals and education officers in Jamaica on the content, administrative procedures and use of teacher performance evaluation. Using the stratified random sampling technique, a sample of 480 teachers, 30 principals and 6 education officers was selected from 30 high and new secondary schools. Analysis of variance, Scheffe's test of significance, the Student "t" and crosstabulations were used to test the hypotheses and research questions posed. The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which controllable institutional variables, as perceived by Black college students, are related to their academic performance. The population for this study came from an historically Black college in Atlanta, Georgia. Using an Ex Post Facto research design, the study focused on the freshman year experience by asking 38 second year computer science and mathematics majors to review their freshman year retrospectively. The purpose of this study was to test the relationship between the types of discipline modalities and the incidences of deviate behavior and to identify specific disciplinary methods that directly affect students' behaviors. Disciplinary records for the school years 1987-1988 and 1988-89 were compiled for 180 students, randomly selected, 45 from each grade 9-12. The data were analyzed using a t test. This study examined the equal opportunity policies utilized by a higher education institution and the effects these policies have on the matriculation patterns and graduation rates of African-American students. The selected policies were: (a) recruitment, (b) admissions, (c) financial aid, and (d) retention. The data were qualitative and included collection of official institutional documents and oral testimonies relating to the subject being investigated. Two research questions were designed to guide the investigation into the link between recruitment, admission, retention, and financial aid policies and enrollment and graduation of African-American students.

This study reviewed the effects of computer-assisted instruction (CAI), in the form of the Prescription Learning (PL), in combination with basal-based instruction (BBI), on the 1987-1988 class of low SES and non-low SES Atlanta Public School second graders. The focus of this study was to investigate the attitude of teachers toward female administrators and the differences in male and female teachers' perceptions of their effectiveness. The study also investigated the influence of demographic characteristics (age, education, experience, sex) on teachers' attitudes and perceptions of effectiveness and the correlation between attitudes and perceived effectiveness.

Purpose The purpose of the study was to determine if teacher turnover in elementary grades could be predicted by classroom teaching performance scores, teacher perceptions of principal instructional leadership in the evaluation process, and selected school and teacher demographic variables.

The problem of this study was to: (1) investigate teacher and student perceptions of an innovative school improvement strategy (two-hour instructional time block schedule), recently implemented in an Atlanta public comprehensive high school; (2) determine the difference between teachers' and students' views on school climate and time on task in the context of the two-hour block schedule; and (3) determine the difference between student achievement in reading and mathematics in 1988 under the one-hour block schedule and student achievement in those two skills in 1989 under the two-hour block schedule.

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which the following factors may differ between chronically tardy and non-tardy students: Parental attitudes, family structure, socioeconomic status, teacher attitudes, and schoolmates' influence. This study examined the impact of school reform on the homebound/ hospital education program before and after the implementation of the Quality Basic Education Act. The impact of school reform was in relationship to the location of the school district and delivery modes of services. It also examined teacher preparation, types of funding sources, selected biographic factors of special education directors and certification of special education directors. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant relationship between student achievement and parental involvement in the school. The population of the study included 105 third and fourth grade students from Snapfinger Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia. Two classes from each grade level were selected systematically to include both high and low achieving students. The composite score on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills was used to assess the level of student achievement.
