Designing A Serious Game To Simulate Ecological Processes On A Post-Eruption Mount St. Helens Landscape, Parker Maynard
Designing A Serious Game To Simulate Ecological Processes On A Post-Eruption Mount St. Helens Landscape, Parker Maynard
Masters Theses
Developing strategies to successfully manage landscapes to meet ecological, economic, and social goals is an increasing concern in a world experiencing anthropogenic global changes. The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state provided a major learning opportunity in managing resource effectively after a major disturbance. This information is explored through Resilience: After The Eruption: a serious game developed as part of this thesis that synthesizes research about ecological recovery and resource management following the eruption of Mount St. Helens. The digital game allows players to take on the role of four different stakeholders performing landscape-based operations while …

College Reconfiguration: Building Faculty Support, Maureen E. Wilson, Dawn M. Shinew, Tracy L. Huziak-Clark, Deborah Wooldridge
Academic Chairpersons Conference Proceedings
Following a year-long discussion, deliberation, and feedback process, faculty and staff in the College of Education and Human Development at Bowling Green State University voted overwhelmingly in support of reconfiguring from five schools and one department to three schools. We discuss our journey and outline the initial benefits, challenges, and lessons of this new configuration.
Incorporation Of Community Resources In Teaching Social Studies In Junior High Schools: A Case In The Adentan District Of The Greater Accra Region Of Ghana, Ronald Osei Mensah, Enock Swanzy-Impraim, Da-Costa Marfo, Pearl Adiza Babah

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Social studies education constitutes a diverse aspect of the human ecosystem that needs external resources to enable effective tuition and learning in the classroom. Using external resources has been a significant challenge for Ghana’s junior high school teachers. Given this, the study explored the integration of community resources in teaching social studies in a selected junior high school in the Adentan District in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It investigated the factors that militate against using community resources and assessed how these problems could be resolved. The study made use of the random sampling technique, with a sample size …
Qualitative Analysis Of A Resource Management Model And Its Application To The Past And Future Of Endangered Whale Populations, Glenn Ledder
Qualitative Analysis Of A Resource Management Model And Its Application To The Past And Future Of Endangered Whale Populations, Glenn Ledder
CODEE Journal
Observed whale dynamics show drastic historical population declines, some of which have not been reversed in spite of restrictions on harvesting. This phenomenon is not explained by traditional predator prey models, but we can do better by using models that incorporate more sophisticated assumptions about consumer-resource interaction. To that end, we derive the Holling type 3 consumption rate model and use it in a one-variable differential equation obtained by treating the predator population in a predator-prey model as a parameter rather than a dynamic variable. The resulting model produces dynamics in which low and high consumption levels lead to single …
S2e15: Why Do We Toss 33% Of Food We Produce When People Are Hungry?, Ron Lisnet, Susanne Lee, Peter O'Brien
S2e15: Why Do We Toss 33% Of Food We Produce When People Are Hungry?, Ron Lisnet, Susanne Lee, Peter O'Brien
The Maine Question
Almost a billion people in the world are food insecure, and each year we throw away about one-third of the food we produce. Susanne Lee, executive-in-residence at the Maine Business School, and Peter O’Brien, a senior majoring in economics, examined the issue of food waste and have some possible solutions.

Chairing Transition: Leading A Department Through A Merger, David M. Keller
Academic Chairpersons Conference Proceedings
This session will focus discussion on the impact of merging pre-existing departments and/or colleges to form a new entity on Chair leadership strategies. Participants will discuss factors to be considered to ensure successful transition for the department and maximize growth in the new entity.
Herding Cats: Governance Models For The Care And Feeding Of Enterprise Resources Planning Systems In Higher Education Institutions, Paula Russell
Herding Cats: Governance Models For The Care And Feeding Of Enterprise Resources Planning Systems In Higher Education Institutions, Paula Russell
MPA Capstone Projects 2006 - 2015
Enterprise Resources Planning systems (ERPs) have revolutionized the manner in which higher education institutions manage its resources. ERPs provide the mechanism to aggregate disparate data across the institution and deliver reports and facilitate analysis on the institution as a whole. ERPs provide a single source of truth for institutional data enabling an institution-wide view of expenditures and are powerful tool for decision support. Institutions choosing to invest in implementing ERPs will enter into a long term relationship with continual maintenance of the systems. Key to the success of maintaining ERPs effectively is the governance model an institution adopts for managing …
Ec94-1772 Windbreaks In Sustainable Agricultural Systems, James R. Brandle, Teresa Boes, Vernon Quam, John Gardner
Ec94-1772 Windbreaks In Sustainable Agricultural Systems, James R. Brandle, Teresa Boes, Vernon Quam, John Gardner
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Sustainable agriculture is a system of whole-farm resource use balanced with whole-farm productivity. The overall level of productivity achieved is dependent upon the ability to coordinate and manage simultaneously the soil, water, plant, and animal resources within climatic and economic limits. Both the kind and amount of plants and animals supported by the system are important and play significant roles, both individually and collectively in maintaining a healthy farm environment. In the future, integrated systems will help reduce human impact on resources while providing sufficient supplies of high quality food and fiber.
Windbreaks provide protection for people, animals, buildings, crops, …
