Automation will alter the work of accountants in the coming years. However, accountants will always have a central role to play in business. In order to continue to thrive, the profession will need to position itself to capitalise on the opportunities that automation will bring. This involves identifying areas of work which computers cannot automate, and to focus on deepening contributions in these areas. This calls for a radical transformation of accounting education in order to equip accounting graduates with relevant work skills that will allow students to navigate a future workplace where computers and technology are the norm.

Critical Pedagogy In The Intercultural Classroom: The Influence Of Values On Participatory Patterns In The Classroom, Misheel Mandalsaikhan
Critical Pedagogy In The Intercultural Classroom: The Influence Of Values On Participatory Patterns In The Classroom, Misheel Mandalsaikhan
Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
This thesis explores the influence of values on students’ participatory patterns within higher education settings and considers the importance of value exploration in art therapy education. Based on the theory of critical pedagogy by Paulo Freire, the influence of historically oppressive pedagogical practices on international and minority students is examined. Drawing on literature that identifies factors in students’ participatory patterns, students’ participatory patterns were found to be determined by values more than race or ethnicity. Though broader values exist within racial and ethnic groups, the reduction of ethnic and racial groups to singular values strips individuals of their unique and ...

The Perception Of Career Readiness Skill Development In College Seniors, Venus Miller
Masters Theses, 2010-2019
As universities and colleges around the world strive to provide rigorous academic instruction, they are also preparing their students to enter into the world of work. According to research conducted by American College Test (ACT), Americans value education because they believe it will provide economic benefit to those that participate in the system. By the year 2018, the majority of newly created jobs in the United States of America (U.S.) are likely to require a college degree (Matter, Burrus, Camara, O’Connor, Hansen, Gambrell, Casillas, & Bobek, 2014). This fact suggests that in order for students to be prepared to ...

Counseling & Human Services Faculty Publications
Ethical Standards for Human Services Professionals and Generic Human Services Professional Competencies adopted by the National Organization for Human Services do not include language or competencies specific to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities. Without a specific ethical code and/or competency outlined by the field, human services practitioners do not have clear guidelines for their work with these populations. Additionally, researchers lack a way to formally measure professionals’ abilities with these populations. This leaves potential for these historically marginalized populations to continue to be in a vulnerable position. To address these needs, authors reviewed established competencies in other ...

The Development And Initial Validation Of A Self-Assessment For Global Leadership Competencies, Sabrena A. O'Keefe
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Global leadership has been a growing area of research as our world becomes interconnected. The National Association for College Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies Work Group even added an eighth competency: global/intercultural fluency. Employers have also expressed a skill crisis regarding students graduating from college without the necessary global leadership skills. However, there are often not enough resources at institutions of higher education to add specific co-curricular programs around global leadership. At the same time many institutions have begun to use the Student Leadership Competencies (Seemiller, 2013) as learning outcomes for their co-curricular programs.
This research study aimed to ...

Mixed Methods Assessment Of Project-Based Learning In A Senior-Level Highway Design Course, Steven Kurtis Younkin
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The lack of practical real-world applications in a classroom setting has been identified as one factor inhibiting student interest in STEM fields. Project-based learning (PBL) directly addresses this concern by providing an opportunity for students to complete an extensive, semester-long project that mirrors professional practice. In addition, PBL allows students an opportunity to refine related soft skills, such as technical writing and oral communication. This study involved the redevelopment of a senior-level highway design course using a PBL framework that largely reflects professional practice. A questionnaire survey was distributed to public and private road agencies in order to assess the ...

Contemporary K-12 educational leaders must fulfill many roles and responsibilities similar to those fulfilled by traditional business leaders. There is, however, a lack of information about the business-oriented competencies of K12 educational leaders in comparison with business executive norms. This lack of information places K-12 institutions at risk of selecting leaders who are not capable of accomplishing institutional goals and objectives, improving the efficiency and sustainability of business operations, meeting stakeholder expectations, managing social responsibilities, and improving the educational foundation of the next-generation workforce. Grounded in leadership theory, this nonexperimental study included the California Psychological Inventory 260 assessment to capture ...
