Usage Of Near Infrared Spectroscopy In Physiotherapy, Maciej Chroboczek, Aleksandra Jabłonska, Rafal Kubiak, Sylwester Kujach, Marcin Luszczyk, Radoslaw Laskowski

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is increasingly used as a local tissue oxygenation equipment and it fulfills the functions of an efficient local microcirculation and a concussion growth monitor. Using it in surgery, physiotherapy or rescue indicates a high interdisciplinary diagnostic potential, which could lead us to improve the quality of patients’ lives. The aim of this study was to review literature related to the physiotherapy aspect of using near infrared spectroscopy and to the consideration given to the development of this method. A review of literature related to the topic. Research shows that NIRS is a good tool to assess …

Civic Media Literacy In A Transmedia World: Balancing Personal Experience, Factual Accuracy And Emotional Appeal As Media Consumers And Circulators, Ellen Middaugh

Journal of Media Literacy Education

Amid growing concerns over the role of “fake news” in civic and political life, efforts to understand how to best prepare youth to evaluate and reason about online sources have gained a sense of urgency. However, less attention has been paid to how such skills are used in the context of the broader array of information behavior that is typical of civic and political participation today—particularly in the circulation of information. Through thematic analysis of interviews and think aloud tasks with n=24 urban high school students reasoning through the processes of search, credibility analysis and circulating information for the purposes …

We’Ve Come A Long Way (Baby)! Or Have We? Evolving Intellectual Freedom Issues In The Us And Florida, L. Bryan Cooper, A.D. Beman-Cavallaro

Works of the FIU Libraries

This paper analyzes a shifting landscape of intellectual freedom (IF) in and outside Florida for children, adolescents, teens and adults. National ideals stand in tension with local and state developments, as new threats are visible in historical, legal, and technological context. Examples include doctrinal shifts, legislative bills, electronic surveillance and recent attempts to censor books, classroom texts, and reading lists.

Privacy rights for minors in Florida are increasingly unstable. New assertions of parental rights are part of a larger conservative animus. Proponents of IF can identify a lessening of ideals and standards that began after doctrinal fruition in the 1960s …

Illiad And Alma Learn To Play Well Together, M. Teresa Doherty Jan 2015

Illiad And Alma Learn To Play Well Together, M. Teresa Doherty

VCU Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations

In technical terms, VCU Libraries repurposed a plug-in developed for NCIP integration between ILLiad and Alma for borrowing and lending functions in ILLiad. In layman's terms, we created a way to connect ILLiad and Alma so patrons can see all their loans (from us and other libraries) through one account.

Using Gimlet And Libraryh3lp To Improve Services At The Butler Community College Libraries, Ronda Holt, Teresa Mayginnes, Samuel K. Willis Jul 2014

Using Gimlet And Libraryh3lp To Improve Services At The Butler Community College Libraries, Ronda Holt, Teresa Mayginnes, Samuel K. Willis

Kansas Library Association College and University Libraries Section Proceedings

Librarians from Butler Community College will speak about two tools, Gimlet and Libraryh3lp, which they use to improve service and track statistics at the circulation desk and online. The combination of the two software products enables them to track statistics and issues from reference inquiries, along with circulation, college, directional, and technical help questions. Gimlet is an easy and inexpensive desk statistics tracker and knowledge base that allows libraries to staff their desks wisely.

Best Circulation Practices For Tablets, Digital Cameras, And Other Technology, Bradley P. Tolppanen, Janice Derr Mar 2014

Best Circulation Practices For Tablets, Digital Cameras, And Other Technology, Bradley P. Tolppanen, Janice Derr

Faculty Research & Creative Activity

The efficient loaning of technology items, such as tablets, digital cameras, and laptops, to patrons in academic libraries requires a sound circulation policy. Like traditional materials the circulation issues to be considered in loaning these devices include loan periods, holds, and fines. Unique aspects presented by technology items involve device content, user agreements, and storage and recharging. This poster session will present a set of best practices for loaning technology items based on the results of a survey of academic libraries.

Usage-Based Collection Evaluation With A Curricular Focus, Karen C. Kohn Jan 2013

Usage-Based Collection Evaluation With A Curricular Focus, Karen C. Kohn

Library Faculty Scholarship

Systematic evaluation of a library’s collection can be a useful tool for collection development. After reviewing three evaluation methods and their usefulness for our small academic library, I undertook a usage-based evaluation, focusing on narrow segments of our collection that served specific undergraduate courses. For each section, I collected data on the number of books owned, number of checkouts in the past four years, and number of unique books used. Using examples from the data, I discuss possible ways to interpret and act on the data. I also note how the knowledge gained from this evaluation fits into the larger …

Open And Accessible: The Relationship Between Closures And Circulation In School Library Media Centers, Gail Dickinson, Karen Gavigan, Shana Pribesh Jan 2008

Open And Accessible: The Relationship Between Closures And Circulation In School Library Media Centers, Gail Dickinson, Karen Gavigan, Shana Pribesh

Teaching & Learning Faculty Publications

A hallmark of school library media best practice is for the library media center to be open and accessible to patron use before, during, and after the school day and throughout the entire school year. Anecdotal evidence and informal discussion among school library media specialists indicate that library media facilities are sometimes used for activities unrelated to the mission of the school library media program in the school. These activities may close the library media center to regular patron use for all or part of the school day. This study surveyed school library media specialists in two states and examined …

The Development Of A University Library: The University Of Nebraska, 1891-1909, Sharon Mccaslin Jan 1987

The Development Of A University Library: The University Of Nebraska, 1891-1909, Sharon Mccaslin

All Theses, Dissertations, and Capstone Projects

The period of transition from a frontier university library to a modern, progressive institution is examined in terms of staff, buildings, collection, services, and administrative and financial support. At the end of this period this Nebraska library had a reputation in excess of that indicated either by financial support or collection size. Timely administrative support and pioneering professional librarians developed initial procedures in cataloging, reference, and interlibrary cooperation, which made the Library at the University of Nebraska one of the outstanding research libraries in the West.
