Two recent reports from the Fordham Institute address the question of the impact of state accountability systems on “high achievers,” referred to in the reports as “students who have already crossed the proficiency threshold.” Both reports argue that this group is being neglected educationally, and they advocate for accountability systems to be redesigned to attend to the needs of high-achieving students. Both reports also recommend that states use a “performance index,” as opposed to proficiency rates, to measure school achievement. Libraries are exploring the use of Quick Response (QR) codes, to market to and connect users with libraries' services. The University of the Pacific has been experimenting with QR codes in an innovative way: to introduce first-year music majors to the physical music library materials via a QR code scavenger hunt. This article discusses the library literature on QR codes and scavenger hunts, as well as the University of the Pacific's QR code scavenger hunt from creation to assessment. Additionally, recommendations are given for designing a similar pedagogical tool at your library.

Collaborative testing is becoming a widely used method of assessment in science education, as well as many other disciplines. While performance gains have been consistently reported, learning gains have not been quite as clearly documented. Learning gains are often measured by assessing the retention of tested concepts. We designed and conducted a study to assess whether retention was greater in a two-stage collaborative exam where students received immediate feedback rather than multiple-choice with no feedback during the collaborative stage. Using real data in an introductory statistics course is a delicate balance between reality and manageability. The internet is awash with data that is useful for students to answer questions of interest to them but it is not always formatted as neatly as textbook data. The ASA's recently endorsed GAISE College Report 2016 points to the plausibility of considering multivariable thinking even if only at a rudimentary level. With both messy and multivariable data in mind, we present some activities/projects and sources for data to give introductory students the opportunity to engage with real data.

In this article, we explore the ability of demographic and attitudinal variables to predict student scores on the Quantitative Reasoning for College Science (QuaRCS) Assessment. Variables measured by the assessment include: students' academic choices and plans, attitudes and perceptions regarding mathematics, self-reported effort level, and basic demographics such as age, race/ethnicity, gender and disability status. As in previously published numeracy studies, we find significant score deviations according to gender, race/ethnicity, and disability status; however, the effect size of these correlations pale in comparison to the effect size of affective/attitudinal variables on QuaRCS score. Multimodal writing often occurs through membership in an online, participatory culture; thus, the audience for student writers potentially can shift from imagined readers to actual, accessible readers and responders. In this article, we thoroughly review the idea of audience and then report results from an exploratory review of K-12 assessment frameworks and analyze how key frameworks address the need for consideration of an interactive audience. A wide range of technologies has been developed to enhance assessment, but adoption has been inconsistent. This is despite assessment being critical to student learning and certification. Language sample analysis (LSA) provides a non-standardized, culturally sensitive method of language assessment and is considered a best practice by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). One type of LSA is the elicitation and analysis of children’s written narratives. Narratives, one type of language discourse, either fictional or personal, can be thought of as stories.

Currently there is a lack of evidence about assessment in adapted physical education (APE) settings concerning the justification for methods or curricula being implemented by teachers in their classrooms, that is perhaps due to a lack of understanding of the central notion of evidence-based practices (Jin & Yun, 2010). The purpose of the current investigation was to conduct a meta-analytic review that evaluates assessment practices to determine the overall effect on specific student affective outcomes. A secondary purpose was to evaluate the moderating effects of different methodological, sample, and study variables. Electronic database searches were performed in SPORT Discus, PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, Pub Med (Medline), Cochrane Database, Omni File Full Text Mega, ProQuest, Child Development and Adolescent Studies, and ERIC using variations of the keywords: assessment, testing, test, measurement, evaluation, formative assessment, summative assessment, norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, affective, cognitive, psychomotor, mastery learning, rubrics, testing, on-going, and standardized. Articles retained for the current meta-analysis met the following criteria: (a) Study is conducted in Physical Education/ Physical activity setting in which inclusion of students with disabilities occurs between the age 3-22, (b) describes or uses an assessment practice, method, instrument, or intervention for students during participation in the physical education/ physical activity setting to measure progress, learning, and/or levels of functioning, (c) includes quantitative descriptive statistics and/or correlations to estimate an effect size, and (d) is in the English language and was conducted/published between January 1970 and February 2015. The average treatment effect for all evidence-based assessments (across all affective outcomes) was small (g = -0.43; SE =.24; 95% C.I.= -0.89, 0.04; p > 0.05) and non-significant favoring control groups or conditions. There is confusion among teachers in a school district in a southeastern state about the instructional use of the state-mandated Dominie assessment for word-level reading and phonemic awareness skills for kindergarten and first-grade students. ability to produce competent practitioners. One method of addressing this need is through the
assessment of self-efficacy. However, little research on self-efficacy in school psychology exists
likely due to the lack of a psychometrically sound measure of this construct. To address this gap,
we examined the construct validity of the Huber Inventory of Self-Efficacy for School
