An Examination Of The Georgia Teacher Keys Effectiveness System, Amy Battle-Edwards

This study examined the Georgia Teachers Effectiveness System and its effects on teachers’ teaching practices, including teacher motivation and teacher behavior. This was a mixed method study that included a focus group, surveys, and document analysis to address the independent variables: Teacher Assessment Performance Standards, Professional Growth, Student Growth Percentile, Student Learning Objectives and Teacher Effectiveness Measurement.

This study sought to understand the extent to which African-American males perceived their experiences in higher education as an impact of their persistence. With only 18 out of 40 African-American males graduating from college within six years (National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, 2008), this study sought to explore the problem of African-American male persistence in higher education. Specifically, this study examined the difference in persistence among African-American males to determine which factors most influenced their persistence and discussed strategies to overcome these challenges.

This quantitative study focused on the impacts of the pre-kindergarten experience in a large urban district in Georgia. The goal of this study was to ascertain student and teacher perceptions of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) effectiveness as based on PBIS tiers and other select variables: school discipline, school safety, school climate, student acceptance of PBIS reward system and administrators’ implementation of PBIS policy. It was a goal of this study to identify factors affecting African-American enrollment and intent to enroll in an advanced placement program and other select variables such as prior course work, teacher expectations, academic motivation, peer affiliation, counselor advisement, teacher perception, and student self-efficacy. This qualitative study examined principals’ and teachers’ perceptions regarding retaining teachers in a large urban school system. This study was based on the premise that once teachers are recruited into an urban school, genuine support (conceptual and instructional) is needed for them to be retained in that type of setting. Retaining highly qualified teachers in urban schools is integral for student achievement and can relieve the financial strain for school districts.
