Stakeholders’ Understanding Of Family Engagement In An Urban School: A Qualitative Study, Lorette Mcwilliams Dec 2017

Stakeholders’ Understanding Of Family Engagement In An Urban School: A Qualitative Study, Lorette Mcwilliams

Educational Studies Dissertations

Family involvement and engagement in children's education has been a part of the educational landscape in the US for several decades. Research indicates family engagement, broadly defined as activities carried out by an adult in support of a child's educational development, has many benefits such as individual student achievement, as well as less traditional outcomes such as behavioral and mental health benefits, better school attendance, high school graduation rates, and secondary school enrollment. Family engagement has been included in federal education policy since the 1960s and continues in today's policies. However, teachers and parents often maintain different perspectives and …

The Effectiveness Of General And Special Education Collaboration In Middle Schools, Kerri L. Olore Nov 2017

The Effectiveness Of General And Special Education Collaboration In Middle Schools, Kerri L. Olore

Educational Studies Dissertations

With the recent mandates involving students with disabilities, there has been ongoing debate regarding the effectiveness of inclusive programs in today’s public schools. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to examine the degree to which general and special educators value collaboration with one another, the ways in which they collaborate, and …

The institutional documents presented to preservice teachers were collected from four teacher education programs in the Commonwealth. An evaluation tool— synthesized from the leading scholarship and research on the …

Art Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Relationship Between Personal Artistic Creative Work And The Practice Of Teaching, Dianne Lynn

Educational Studies Dissertations

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore visual art teachers’ perceptions of the relationship between their artistic creative processes and their teaching. Based on this foundational idea and guided by a phenomenological research method with additional strategies drawn from arts-based research, this study sought to understand what art teachers learn from continuing a creative practice, the impact a creative practice has on learning environments, and to understand the relationship between …
