Effects Of Residential Learning Communities, On -Campus Housing, And Gender On Students' Perception Of Their Living Environment, Jennifer Benson Jones

The purpose of this study was to explore differences in the perception of residential living experiences between students living in residential learning communities and those living in traditional residence halls. These two groups were further disaggregated based on their living environment location, on- or off-campus, and their gender. The quality of experience was based on students' perception of their living environment assessed using the Student Residence Environment Scales.;The participants in this study were undergraduate students at a large southeastern public Research I institution enrolled as full-time status students. An exploratory case study of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council (VBHEC), a higher education lobbying group of business and education interests, was conducted to gain greater insight to state-level higher education interest group formation. A qualitative method was utilized and interviews with founding members of the VBHEC were carried out to understand why participants felt the need to organize such a group at that particular time as well as why members joined the group and continued their participation. The case study covered the time period from the early 1990s through the Council's incorporation in September of 1996. Findings were …

The purpose of this single site case study was to examine administrators', teachers', and guidance counselors' perceptions of site-based management components and school improvement. Educators are compelled by federal and state legislation to investigate multiple aspects of the school organization to address factors that may increase student achievement. This study addressed this issue by investigating organizational health and school safety in urban elementary schools and their relationships to student achievement. The study explored elementary school teachers' perceptions regarding organizational health and school safety. These data were correlated to student achievement on the Virginia Standards of Learning Tests in English and mathematics for fifth grade.;The Organizational Health Inventory (OHI) for elementary schools was used to survey teachers' perceptions of institutional integrity, collegial leadership, resource influence, …
