The Changing Role Of Ellen White In Seventh-Day Adventism With Reference To Sociocultural Standards At Avondale College, Michael L. Chamberlain

Theses Non-Avondale

The core tenet of this thesis is that sociocultural standards at Avondale College have changed dramatically since the Ellen White period, to the extent that a general paradigm shift may have evidenced, although her writings appear to remain the official standard for the Church at senior administration level up til 2001. The administration has steadfastly maintained through the Church creed of Twenty-seven fundamentals - last updated in 1980 - that Ellen White is a prophetess of God. She is the authoritative and inspired commentator on scripture and in effect has been used as the arbiter for decisions on Church doctrine and sociocultural ...

Critical Pedagogy As Organizational Praxis: Challenging The Demise Of Civil Society In A Time Of Permanent War, Peter Mclaren, Nathalia E. Jaramillo

Education Faculty Articles and Research

The writers criticize the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the ensuing military and political occupation of the country. They suggest a link between aggressive U.S. military posture and neoliberal globalization and contend that the current situation in Iraq is a metaphor for globalized capitalism across the world. The writers then consider issues surrounding the politics of organization in the search for a socialist alternative to free market capitalism and discuss how critical educators can reinvigorate the civil societarian left at a time when elites are less accountable to civil society than ever before.

Charter Schools And Equal Access: Implications For Magnet And Other Choice Schools, Carrie Ausbrooks

Essays in Education

American public schools have been entrusted with the responsibility of inculcating citizens with democratic values. However, schools have come under attack for a variety of reasons. This article begins with a discussion of the basic similarities between magnet and charter schools, followed by a discussion of a legal research study which examined the extent to which U.S. charter ...
