An Analysis Of Sex Differences In Teacher-Student Interaction As Manifest In Verbal And Nonverbal Behavior Cues, Wilma Baker Cosper

Purpose
The purpose of this investigation was to analyze sex differences in teacher-student interaction as manifest in verbal and nonverbal behavior cues.
Procedure
Four female fifth and sixth-grade teachers and 105 gifted students (53 males and 52 females) were the subjects whose verbal and nonverbal behavior was recorded on 16 videotapes during 16 forty-minute class sessions. Following randomization, 8,648 behavior cues were coded on a matrix designed to accommodate a modified version of the French and Galloway IDER system of behavior analysis. The purpose of this study was (1) to analyze the interpretation given by the United States Supreme Court to the principle of separation of church and state, through its decisions pertaining to various religious practices; (2) to determine the nature and extent of these practices in the public schools of Tennessee; and (3) to offer some basis for comparing current practices with the legal provisions.

This experiment was designed to determine the effects of free and forced choice within time gradients of five and eight seconds using monetary incentive on a serial learning task. A series of nonsense symbols were successively presented to thirty-six subjects whose task was to learn the serial with the least number of exposures.

In the opinion of the investigator, the experiment reported reinforces the hypothesis that greater imagination and creative ability can be fostered in the nine-to-eleven year-old through giving primary consideration to the developmental needs of this age group when presenting a medium. Also that a systematically structured approach to the use of the medium facilitates the child's creative growth and makes progress an unavoidable issue.

Studies of "rock writings," both pictograph and petroglyph, indicate that the primitive artist was following a pattern of pictography in the vogue of his area. The drawings were symbolic of religious and ceremonial rites, i.e., puberty. Rich findings have been located along the Snake River depicting the history of the Nez Perce Indian. Education of children was in the form of myths and legends told in large group gatherings in the longhouse during the winter months. Expressions of politeness, etiquette, and proper behavior were usually emphasized. Horror stories indicated treatment by "spirits," if caught. Monsters were obstacles to be conquered. …

The purpose of this study was to develop an Instructional 16 mm color film on Greco-Roman wrestling moves, counters, and drills which would benefit those on all levels interested in the use of upperbody wrestling techniques. To achieve this objective it was necessary to determine the moves, counters and drills which are most successfully used in Greco-Roman wrestling.
