Summary. The Bureau of Statistics estimates there will be a l 0% increase in job employment for all types of school administrators by the year 2006. Also, by the year 2003 it is estimated that 50% of all current principals will retire. In the absence of seasoned administrators, school districts will be searching a field that is primarily composed of skilled teachers that lack the experience of administration.

The author conducted this longitudinal study to gain an objective view of the instructional practices on student achievement. The author, an elementary principal, facilitated a change in philosophy and practice, especially in the area of mathematics.

This study confirmed that there is a statistically significant impact on student achievement when a standards-based instructional program is implemented. The data in the study also indicated that a significant number of students improved their achievement score based on CTB-McGraw Hill Terra Nova Assessments.

An Investigation Of The Influence Of Irish As An L1 Or L2 On Subsequent Instructed Language Acquisition In L3 Or L4, Corina Griffin

Research in Ireland to date has paid little attention to the fact that all foreign language teaching occurs in the context where the FL (foreign language) is an L3. The present study examines the extent to which students transfer or modify strategies they had previously deployed in learning Irish to their L3/L4. It is proposed that students are deploying the same strategies in their learning of Irish as an L1/L2 and the foreign language (FL) as an L3/L4, thus indicating a similar approach to the learning process.
