Research shows patients who develop self-health management skills are able to translate these skills in other life domains such as higher education, social interaction and employment. Persons with chronic health conditions or disabilities often face challenges securing employment which in turn impacts self sufficiency and long-term health. The poster focuses on two programs at Children's Mercy serving as key building blocks for adolescents to manage their lives.

BACKGROUND: A multidisciplinary group at Children's Mercy Kansas City applied for and received the NNLM MCR's Immersive Workshop Grant in December, 2017, and used the funding to organize and host a two-day immersive, interprofessional workshop in April, 2018, that 1) brought together health literacy-invested groups and individuals within the Kansas City community to learn about health literacy including cultural, language, numeracy and digital inclusion factors; and 2) provided specialized training to targeted CM participants to improve the provision of bedside health information to patients and caregivers. First Steps is the statewide early intervention program in Missouri, but a review of referrals from the Truman neonatal intensive care unit revealed that only 24% of eligible patients were being referred. This poster describes efforts to increase awareness among residents and to refer all eligible patients to First Steps upon discharge.

This poster describes an educational intervention consisting of two classroom sessions to teach high school seniors how to successfully transition to adult care. Topics covered included the ability to fill out medical forms, when to contact one's doctor and where to get medical care when the doctor's office is closed, how health care privacy changes at age 18, the need for health insurance, the need to keep medical records, etc.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current assessment practices as well as identify the needs and challenges of the Program Directors in implementing ACGME's Milestones for assessment in graduate medical education at a pediatric hospital. Application Of The Many Facet Rasch Model To Validate A Survey For The Selection Of Chief Residents, Kadriye O. Lewis, Haiqin Chen

The literature does not show any established guidelines, methods, or psychometric instruments for selecting Chief Residents in academic programs. This study validates a newly designed instrument based on the characteristics and leadership qualities from the residents' perspectives. Our newly developed survey can differentiate Chief Resident candidates' performance as well as identify why a specific candidate is selected or not through MFRM. This tool can be applied to other residency programs.
