This study examines the profile of the contributors of full-length articles to the American Sociolog- ical Review (ASR) in 2010. Examining over a dozen variables, the study compared the findings with both the 2010 regular issues of the American Economic Review (AER) and the American Political Science Review (APSR). Black Americans And Interracial Marriage: A Focus On Black Women, Amadu Jacky Kaba

Amadu Jacky Kaba

This paper claims that although there has been a significant increase in the number of scholarly publica-tions on interracial marriages in the United States in recent decades, most of these publications tend to focus on the small but visible increase in marriages, co-habitations and dating; how Whites or European Gentile Americans are gradually becoming accepting of these relationships; the factors that are causing non-Blacks to “reject” Blacks; and specifically factors that are causing White men and other non-Black men to “reject” Black women. As a result, the paper attempts to contribute to this topic by focusing on an important phenomenon ...

If You Can Make It There, You Can Make It Anywhere: Providing Reference And Instructional Library Services In A Virtual Environment, Elizabeth Leonard, Maureen Morasch

Elizabeth. Leonard

Perhaps the most dramatic shift in services has been the transition from a purely physical to a combination physical/virtual or even virtual-only environment. This article examines how twenty-first-century online academic librarians deliver instruction and reference services to their student body and faculty, and it explores the ramifications for the education of future librarians in U.S. library schools, including the areas of technology, instruction, interpersonal skills, and intellectual property.

This paper claims that people of Black African descent resist racial revenge, including against people of European descent. The paper began by presenting data illustrating that millions of Black Africans were captured and transported to be enslaved through the Indian Ocean, Trans-Atlantic, Trans-Saharan, and Red Sea Slave Trades from the 1400s to the 1900s. Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia are among the nations that lost at least one million of their members during this period. For Black Americans, however, the data show that just a very tiny fraction of them are involved in interracial romantic re-lations, including marriages with Whites and other non-White groups. The paper then goes on to present the factors responsible for this phenomenon.

From Both Sides, Now: Librarians Team Up With Computer Scientist To Deliver Virtual Computer-Information Literacy Instruction., Martha Fallahay Loesch

Martha M Loesch

Two members of the library faculty at Seton Hall University teamed up with a respected full professor of mathematics and computer science, in order to create an online course that introduces information literacy both from the perspectives of the computer scientist and from the instruction librarian. Educational Attainment, Population Increase And The Progress Of African Americans, Amadu Jacky Kaba Jan 2010

Educational Attainment, Population Increase And The Progress Of African Americans, Amadu Jacky Kaba

Amadu Jacky Kaba

This paper claims that African Americans are making consistent progress in college or university enrollment and degree attainment. These gains in educational attainment have led to a substantial proportion of African Americans to rise in many important sectors of society, such as business, the military and politics. However, there is a concern that unlike the Asian and Hispanic populations in the United States, proportionally, the African American population is not increasing as rapidly. This slow annual growth of the African American population may have both economic and political implications in the years and decades to come.
