The Effect Of The Behavioral Analysis Feedback Model On Improving Performance Of Nursing Students During Clinical Rotations, Melanie Elizabeth Ross Apr 2018

The Effect Of The Behavioral Analysis Feedback Model On Improving Performance Of Nursing Students During Clinical Rotations, Melanie Elizabeth Ross

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

This study explored the effects the Behavioral Analysis Feedback (BAF) Model had on improving nursing student’s performance. Research studies surrounding feedback primarily centered on frameworks designed as models for delivering feedback as well as the timing for delivering feedback. In addition, past research has also focused on individual elements that affect performance with little regard to environmental elements. The BAF Model was conceptualized based on the importance of providing feedback to nursing students while emphasizing three individual and three environmental elements that have the potential to influence behavior.

This multiple measure, single-case study utilized a quasi-experimental pre-post intervention study design. …

Effect Of An Adaptive Thinking Training Methodology On Critical Thinking Disposition Using Human Patient Simulators: A Catalyst For Preparing Advanced Nursing Students, Robert Joseph Fitkin Jr. Apr 2015

Effect Of An Adaptive Thinking Training Methodology On Critical Thinking Disposition Using Human Patient Simulators: A Catalyst For Preparing Advanced Nursing Students, Robert Joseph Fitkin Jr.

Teaching & Learning Theses & Dissertations

Critical thinking decision making is the foundation for effective, safe, nursing practice. Nurses have to assess patient issues rapidly regardless of whether it is emotional, psychological, or physical, and then sort through "rapid fire" questions resulting in invisible sorting, discerning, and drawing of conclusions. Doing this "invisible sorting" well requires practice. Nursing education provides practice through preceptors or scenarios-driven human patient simulators to practice critical thinking. This study examines Adaptive Thinking Training Methodology with simulation exercises as a possible catalyst for growth in critical thinking disposition, and help in addressing the preparation-practice gap for novice nurses.

Effects Of An Interprofessional Simulation Activity To Improve Students' Perceptions Of Other Healthcare Professions, Chase Raymond Poulsen Apr 2013

Effects Of An Interprofessional Simulation Activity To Improve Students' Perceptions Of Other Healthcare Professions, Chase Raymond Poulsen

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

Healthcare professionals have historically been educated and trained by members of their own profession within a curriculum that reinforces their individual discipline-specific strengths. This differentiation has contributed to students having little interaction with other professionals until after they have entered the workforce and consequently little formal education in collaboration or integration. The purpose of this mixed-method study was to evaluate the impact of an interprofessional (IP) collaborative activity on student's perceptions of the others discipline for the improvement in care of medical patients.

The sample population consisted of students from two programs, nursing (n=40) and respiratory therapy (n=33). Students were …
