Vanity Of Vanities Or Song Of Songs? Music Education From A Biblical Perspective, Sandra Yang Jan 2020

Vanity Of Vanities Or Song Of Songs? Music Education From A Biblical Perspective, Sandra Yang

Faculty Integration Papers

The last chorus of a beloved gospel hymn reads, “Christ without, all is vain! Christ within, all is gain.” Without Him, life at best is the vanity of vanities with nothing new under the sun. With Him, though, as our regenerated new life within, our life is a continual song of songs, full of meaning, full of potential, full of the life that is the very Christ Himself. To know Him and the power of His resurrection (Phil. 3:10) has been my principal aim since I met Him. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes …

What Place Do Electronic Resources Have In The Christian School Library?, Sheri E. Cooper

Master of Education Applied Research Projects

The purpose of this study was to determine how Christian school library collections have been impacted by the information age. The focus was threefold: Do collection development policies include e-resources? Should they? How is a biblical worldview exhibited in the selection of e-resources? How much of the budget should be allocated to e-resources? The twenty-two participants of this study were librarians from Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) accredited schools who were willing to participate. The instrument used for this study was a survey with primarily open-ended questions. This study shows that many Christian school libraries do not consider e-resources …

Anxiously Anticipating! A Parallel Journey To An Art And Equestrian Camp For Children With Disabilities, Lorna C. Timmerman, Ruth E. Jefferson

The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)

In many communities, there are few opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in engaging summer camp experiences. This poster will highlight one successful endeavor that provided this much-needed opportunity to children with disabilities. Little has been explored regarding how parents go about preparing their children for the camp experience that is to come; and few studies have documented the planning and preparation by camp staff. This presentation will explore one family’s efforts to prepare and support a child’s first venture into organized summer programming. At the same time, this presentation will detail the preparation (and surprising level of anxiety) …

Rhetorical Genre Theory And The Enactment Of Faith In The Composition Classroom, Heather N. Hill Jan 2014

Rhetorical Genre Theory And The Enactment Of Faith In The Composition Classroom, Heather N. Hill

Faculty Integration Papers

In James Berlin’s Rhetoric and Reality: Writing Instruction in American Colleges, 1900-1985 he argues that “every rhetorical system is based on epistemological assumptions about the nature of reality, the nature of the knower, and the rules governing the discovery and communication of the known” (4). Beginning with the debates between Plato and the sophists and running through the history of rhetoric to the likes of Wayne Booth on one side and William Covino on the other, rhetorical theorists have always been interested in debating the nature of reality, knowledge, morality, ethics, and T/truth. How one defines the status of these, …

The Integration Of Faith, Learning And Life, Brenda B. Mackay

Faculty Integration Papers

This paper will deal with the concept of Biblical integration. Biblical integration can be compared to painting a beautiful picture that uses exquisite colors of various oils. Individually, each color is attractive and alive, but integrated into a whole by the hand of the master artist, the colors cry out with the beauty of a coherent, unified image. So it is, that integrating the colors of faith, learning and life under the Master’s hand has the potential for creating a stimulating and attractive picture that reflects the splendor of the great Master Artist. According to I Corinthians 10:31, it is, …

God And The Engineer: An Integration Paper, Timothy R. Tuinstra

Faculty Integration Papers

Cedarville University exists to equip Christian students for lifelong leadership and service marked by excellence and grounded in biblical truth. So states the mission statement of this great institution. The challenge for her faculty is to flesh out this mission in individual courses, laboratories, and interactions with students across the campus. This is the mandate of “biblical integration”. The challenge for Christian professors is to see the whole realm of knowledge holistically and to teach their students to do the same. Greg Bahnsen describes well the task of integration when he says, “...God’s word demands unreserved allegiance to God and …

The contents of this paper follow a mixed-method study that involves surveying graduates of two-year colleges as well as interviewing employers who frequently hire two-year college graduates. Fifty-two suburban eighth grade students represented the sample population. Results of the SPSS analysis showed that both classes made improvement from their pre-test to their post-test for both units but students receiving instruction through inquiry-based instruction showed significantly more improvement on the second unit. These results can be useful for educators …
