Daily stressors create feelings known as burnout, including emotional exhaustion, detachment from teammates, and a decline in feelings of professional competence. The alarmingly high rate of educator turnover illustrates a critical juncture in education. Individual therapeutic management of pathological anger is treated in various ways depending on practitioners’ theoretical orientations and competency levels. Popular psychological individual and group therapies addressing anger and aggression in adolescents focus primarily on cognitive-behavioral techniques that manage anger’s symptoms. There is an ever-increasing need for school psychology training programs to demonstrate their
ability to produce competent practitioners. One method of addressing this need is through the
assessment of self-efficacy. However, little research on self-efficacy in school psychology exists
likely due to the lack of a psychometrically sound measure of this construct. To address this gap,
we examined the construct validity of the Huber Inventory of Self-Efficacy for School
Psychologists Research Version (HIS-SP-RV), a pre-existing measure of self-efficacy, with a

The purpose of this dissertation was to determine the most valid language psychologists can use to assess Spanish-speaking students who are English language learners, depending on the students’ English language proficiency level, Spanish language proficiency level, and demographic information. Participants included 84 2nd to 5th grade Spanish-speaking students who were English language learners. These students were given a demographic survey, a WISC-IV in English, and a WISC-IV in Spanish. A web-based survey was conducted that included 97 practicing school psychologists in California. The results from the survey indicated that the majority (88%) of respondents were knowledgeable about Tourette Syndrome. Many respondents (28%) had never worked with a student with Tourette’s, 20% had at least one case, and 52% indicated that they had worked with more than two cases in their careers as school psychologists. The incidence rates of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are increasing, yet educators continue to be inadequately trained in assessing and serving students with TBIs. This study examined the efficacy of a half-day TBI training program for school psychologists designed to improve their knowledge and skills. Results of quantitative and qualitative survey analysis indicated there was little increase in knowledge and skills from pre-training to one-year follow-up, although participants did increase in confidence related to their decision-making abilities in working with students with TBI. The data indicate a need for future study of more effective training models.

Self-advocacy for persons with disabilities involves demonstrating knowledge of oneself and knowledge of rights afforded to individuals with disabilities through one's communication with others and leadership skills. These self-advocacy skills are significantly associated with positive outcomes after high school for students with a range of disabilities. We present the results of a program evaluation system for examining school psychology interns' impact on the academic and behavioral functioning of children. Outcome data from a variety of single-case problem-solving interventions conducted from 2008-2012 indicated overall moderate, positive effects. Global supervisor ratings indicated strong perceptions of the interns' positive impact on the children they served.

The present study assessed the effectiveness of Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (P-T-R), an assessment-based model for students with behavior problems, using an A-B-A-B design with follow-up. Participants included three students in grades kindergarten, fourth, and fifth in a rural Midwestern school district. Results indicated that PTR was effective in reducing disruptive behaviors and increasing academic engaged time across all three participants. The results also indicated that the teacher participants were able to implement the behavior interventions with fidelity and with high levels of perceived social validity.

Behavior rating scales help assess social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems in children, adolescents, and teens. In this article, the authors review research on individual, peer, and school contributions that may be critical factors for enhancing efforts to address bullying among students. Methodological challenges are delineated,with an emphasis on how bullying is defined and assessed and the subsequent implications for bullying prevention and intervention program evaluation. The impact of school-based anti-bullying programs and the challenges currently facing educators and researchers in this area are discussed. The article concludes with a proposal for a broader, ecologically based model of school bullying based on the emerging literature.

This study investigated the effect of a Making Healthy Choices lesson on junior high school students' preference rankings of items used to motivate students to increase academic performance. Results indicated that the lesson resulted in increased ranking scores on healthy items. The present study, using a multiple baseline design across subjects, evaluated whether training teachers to give effective commands alone and in combination with verbal praise for appropriate classroom behavior and compliance would result in increased compliance, academic engagement and academic responding. Results indicate that increasing effective teacher commands resulted in increased rates of student compliance of 7% for Student one, 15% for Student Two, and 17% for Student Three during the effective commands alone phase of the study. The Folger and Puck (1976) request-centered relational communication coding system was used to examine the relationship between measures of consultant and consultee control in behavioral consultation and (a) consultee satisfaction; (b) client behavior change; (c) perceived treatment integrity; and (d) perceptions of client behavior change.
