Student Test Scores And Their Relationship To Order Of Test Completion, Ron Deiter, Vern Pierce Mar 1991

Student Test Scores And Their Relationship To Order Of Test Completion, Ron Deiter, Vern Pierce

Economics Publications

A number of different instruments are typically used by instructors to assess an undergraduate student's level of understanding of course subject matter and, ultimately, to assign each student a course grade. While homework assignments, quizzes, term papers, group projects, class participation and oral reports are all commonly used, generally, a major part of a student's course grade is based on classroom performance on exams. Many instructors assume or like to believe that the major, if not the only. determinant of student scores on exams is student knowledge and understanding of the material. However, Marotz and Young (1988) suggest ...

Academic Labor Supply, Ronald G. Ehrenberg Jan 1991

Academic Labor Supply, Ronald G. Ehrenberg

Articles and Chapters

[Excerpt] The plan of this study is as follows. In the remainder of this chapter, some background data are presented on the academic labor market and new Ph.D. production in the United States. Chapter 7 describes a schematic model of academic labor supply and indicates the underlying trends since 1970 in a number of variables that contribute to projections of shortages of faculty. In Chapter 8, a general model of occupational choice and the decision to undertake and complete graduate study is sketched. This framework, available data, and the prior academic literature are then used to address students' choice ...

Development And Feasibility Study Of A Teacher Performance-Based Pay Plan , Terry Andrew Elfrink Jan 1991

Development And Feasibility Study Of A Teacher Performance-Based Pay Plan , Terry Andrew Elfrink

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to develop a turnkey model of a more comprehensive and accurate merit pay plan based on the total systems approach to teacher evaluation. This study reviewed the current incentive pay literature and validated the need, potential format, variables, and procedures for the development and implementation of the plan's algorithms. Finally, this study examined the cost feasibility of the model in terms of teacher compensation using a California school district's financial infrastructure; The review of literature substantiated three overwhelming reasons for the use of teacher performance-based pay plans: (1) to increase recruitment ...

The Development Of A Mathematical Model For Technology Transfer Potential: A Manufacturing Industry Case , Laode M. Kamaluddin Jan 1991

The Development Of A Mathematical Model For Technology Transfer Potential: A Manufacturing Industry Case , Laode M. Kamaluddin

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A mathematical model was developed to measure the degree of technology in a given country or countries. The model is based on the regression analysis incorporating a taxonomic method to measure the difference of technological development within a group of countries. Simple linear regression analysis was employed to identify the independent variables showing the strongest relationship to the dependent variable. These variables were then used in controlled studies to investigate causal relationships, i.e., to identify the importance of the technological characteristics influencing the technological level. Second, the independent variables most influencing the dependent variable were selected using the all-regression ...

Psychological Type And Preferred Learning Styles Of Institutional Advancement Officers: An Initial Study Using The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator In Three Geographic Areas , Phyllis J. Lepke Jan 1991

Psychological Type And Preferred Learning Styles Of Institutional Advancement Officers: An Initial Study Using The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator In Three Geographic Areas , Phyllis J. Lepke

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was used to determine the psychological types of 545 institutional advancement officers (alumni administrators, educational fund raisers, public information officers, and senior advancement professionals) who were registered for one district conference of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 1988, 1989, or 1990. There were 295 respondents from the Northeast (Districts I/II), 155 from the Midwest (District VI), and 95 from the Northwest (District VIII);ENTJ (18.90%) was the most frequent type in the total sample. While the general population is 75 percent Sensing, the advancement sample was 65 percent Intuitives ...
