Factors Affecting Student Graduation Rates, Kaleb Luse Mar 2017

Factors Affecting Student Graduation Rates, Kaleb Luse

Research in the Capitol

Over the past few years, colleges and the United States government have become increasingly interested in raising graduation rates. This paper uses data from a survey given to students during their freshman year to analyze factors specific to an individual student that makes them more or less likely to graduate. Previous research shows that high school GPA and SAT scores are the two most statistically significant factors. In my study, I use a logit regression model to determine which factors are significant to a student’s likelihood of graduating. As with previous research I found high school GPA to be ...

What Are The Best Universities In The Nation, And Why?, Taylor Finn

Honors Projects and Posters

This project is an economists approach to ranking universities in the United States. The goal of this research was twofold. First, I aimed to assign a market based quality measure to 950 universities. This was accomplished by using NACE data from 2013 to calculate a weighted average of salaries for each university. This is what graduates should receive on average after graduation. We then used PayScale data from 2013 to find out what graduates from each university actually made. The difference between what they should receive and actually receive equals the quality value. Second, I analyzed how specific university attributes ...

Teacher As 'Learner': A Case Study Of Teaching International Economics And Finance, Margaret Giles Feb 2013

Teacher As 'Learner': A Case Study Of Teaching International Economics And Finance, Margaret Giles

eCULTURE

How lucky are we to be teaching economics at this time? Discussions enrich our honours and postgraduate teaching programmes which have always been delivered beyond the textbook. But what about our undergraduate programmes in economics? Can we break away from the prescribed text and engage more fully with contemporary debate? Can our undergraduates also be encouraged to think like economists? In 2009 we have an ideal opportunity to eschew the standard textbook based approach to undergraduate economics teaching. This paper highlights a case study in which a third year unit in international economics and finance fed into School, Faculty and ...

Adapting The System Of Continuing Vocational Education For The 3rd Industrial Revolution: Experiences From The Swedish Pilot Project With Ave, Mats Lindell Aug 2000

Adapting The System Of Continuing Vocational Education For The 3rd Industrial Revolution: Experiences From The Swedish Pilot Project With Ave, Mats Lindell

International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference

This paper analyses problems associated with adapting the system of continuing vocational education (CVT) to the rapidly changing Swedish labour market. The key question asked in the paper is how CVT is going to adapt to a labour market characterised by a growing ITeconomy. The paper also presents empirical data from the pilot project in Sweden called Advanced Vocational Education. AVE is a new form of post-secondary education designed to meet changing technology and skill requirements. The paper concludes that AVE is a step in the right direction in decreasing the gap between demand and supply.
