Over the last few decades, the world has experienced an unprecedented growth in the size and scope of civil society organizations (Boli & Thomas, 1999; Kaldor, Moore, & Selchow, 2012).1 On par with these developments is the ever increasing significance of what these organizations assumingly can and should do to mitigate and solve some of the more pressing social and environmental issues we currently face locally and globally.
