The Moderating Role Of Perseverance And Determination In Action In The Context Of Self-Efficacy And Life Satisfaction Of Sportspeople With Mobility Impairment, Natalia Segiet, Krzysztof Gerc
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: The article assumes the biopsychosocial model of disability and refers, inter alia, to the assumptions of the concept of empowerment, which recognizes the fact that practicing sports by people with disabilities creates favorable conditions for strengthening resources and developing skills. An attempt was made to develop a model that verifies the moderating importance of mental resilience in the aspect of experiencing a sense of effectiveness and life satisfaction in sportspeople with mobility impairment. Material and method: The research conducted in an encrypted online manner involved 58 people (31 able-bodied sportspeople and 27 sportspeople with physical disabilities). The following tools …
Effects Of Physical Activity On Self-Efficacy Of Patients With Bronchial Asthma, Carolin Schulze
Effects Of Physical Activity On Self-Efficacy Of Patients With Bronchial Asthma, Carolin Schulze
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: Due to higher exposures to fine dust, increased smoking and prevalence of obesity and stress, an increase in the diagnosis of bronchial asthma can be expected, which requires adequate, scientifically tested, alternative therapy methods. The current study investigated the effects of regular physical training on general and disease-specific self-efficacy. Materials and Methods: Overall 82 participants with mild to moderate medicated asthma (63% female, mean age = 41.88 ± 10.43 years) took part in the study. They were randomly divided into three groups: (1) no intervention, (2) progressive muscle relaxation and (3) physical activity intervention. Intervention lasted ten weeks with …

Attitudes And Self-Efficacy Of Swimming Coaches Towards The Inclusion Of Swimmers With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Eleftheria Kasagianni, Dimitrios Kokaridas, Panagiotis Varsamis, Vasilis Tsimaras
International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education
The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes and self-efficacy of swimming coaches regarding the inclusion of swimmers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The sample consisted of 150 Greek swimming coaches with an average age of 29.58 years. Each participant completed the Swimming Coaches Attitudes towards Inclusion Questionnaire for perceptions assessment and the Biddle and Goudas (1997) self-efficacy questionnaire. The statistical analysis used SPSS 27 to calculate Cronbach’s alpha, Pearson product-moment correlations, independent t-tests, and ANOVA. The findings of the study showed that the swimming coaches expressed positive attitudes and a high percentage of perceived self-efficacy towards the …
Physical Activity Influence On Adults With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Shannon M. Dyke, Katelyn E. Whitehead, Vanessa Mikan Phd
Physical Activity Influence On Adults With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Shannon M. Dyke, Katelyn E. Whitehead, Vanessa Mikan Phd
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Less than a one-third of adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) are meeting national physical activity guidelines (WHO, 2020). Adults with IDD are at risk for developing chronic health related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes, and hypertension earlier in adulthood and typically progress faster than adults without IDD. Physical activity combats these chronic diseases and needs to be introduced to this population in an accessible way. PURPOSE: To determine the influence of physical activity training sessions on balance, flexibility, range of motion, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength and self-efficacy in a group of individuals with IDD. …

Correlations Between Psychomotor Abilities And Selected Personality Variables In Rowers, Dominika Wilczynska
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: The purpose of this study was to present possibilities of using computer tests in the assessment of chosen cognitive skills and an analysis of correlations between the mentioned variables and the level of optimism, self-efficacy, coping strategies, anxiety and perceived stress in Polish national team rowers. Material and methods: The study involved 20 rowers. Cognitive abilities were measured with the following computer tests: the Reaction Test (RT) and the Determination Test (DT) taken from the Vienna Test System (VTS). The VTS has a wide range of psychometric tools to identify the level of athlete’s cognitive abilities as well as …
Athlete Self-Efficacy Scale: Development And Psychometric Properties, Çalık Veli Koçak
Athlete Self-Efficacy Scale: Development And Psychometric Properties, Çalık Veli Koçak
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: It is important that psychological structures have an impact on athlete performance, such as self-efficacy can be measured consistently. The aim of this study is to develop a measurement tool with psychometric properties that can measure the self-efficacy beliefs of athletes. Material and methods: The participants of the study consisted of 325 athletes (age 21.6 ± 4.2) who actively pursue sports in various sports branches in Turkey. In the validity and reliability analysis of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes were used. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient value of the total scale is .88. Results: The validity and reliability …
Self-Talk: Mentoring And Empowering Faculty To Contribute To Organizational Change, Brian Culp
Self-Talk: Mentoring And Empowering Faculty To Contribute To Organizational Change, Brian Culp
Faculty Articles
We can effectively mentor if in possession of qualities to empower mentees, which include: effective communication skills, knowledge of the professional realm, enthusiasm, passion and the ability to create an equitable and supportive organizational environment with the mentee. The authors of this article propose that self-talk (ST) or inner speech is a helpful means of inspiring mentors, colleagues, teachers, and friends in navigating communication challenges with themselves and others. A three-step approach to implementing ST for the purpose of mentoring involves: (1) awareness of the ST they are currently using; (2) follow-up with the mentee’s active reflection of and recording …

Improvement In Physical Function And Quality Of Life In Older Adults Following 4 Weeks Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, Monica A. Mendoza, Mitchell S. Kane, Nigel C. Jiwan, Kyndall P. Ramirez, Lindsay E. Kipp Ph.D, Joni A. Mettler Ph.D
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Older adults often suffer from sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, which negatively impacts physical function and quality of life (QoL). Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is frequently used in physical rehabilitation as a muscle strengthening modality; however, little research exists on QoL outcomes in response to NMES. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine changes in QoL and physical function in older adults after 4 weeks of NMES. METHODS: Ten healthy, older adults participated in the study (67.8 ± 2.1 years-old). Each participant was seated on an isokinetic dynamometer with the knee positioned at 60°, …
