This research project outlines the rigorous and detailed methods used in conducting a gender-related salary equity study. Specifically, this study looks into the question of whether salaries received by female faculty members are significantly different from the salaries received by Caucasian-male faculty members. Twelve current funds revenue sources utilized by 212 community colleges in 11 Midwest states during the decade of the 1990s were analyzed, using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), available on the Internet. Comparisons were made by state as well as time, using the two-way analysis of variance. Of particular interest were trends in the proportions of student tuition and fees, and state and/or local appropriations from 1990 to 1995 to 2000. This study was conducted at Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC), located in Sheldon, Iowa. Northwest Iowa Community College serves a 4 1/2 county rural area. In December of 1992 NCC placed a seven million dollar bond issue before the voters. This referendum which needed a 60% plus one voter approval received a 36.41% approval. The purpose of this study was to evaluate specific changes made to the federal need analysis formula between aid years 1992 and 1993. The subjects examined were 1992 dependent student, firm family financial aid applicants at Iowa State University. A random sample of 200 records was drawn from a farm population of 2225 students;Aid applicant data were drawn from the institutions student aid system. The intent of this study is to assess and compare the attitudes of five groups directly and indirectly related to Iowa State University, in regard to their attitudes toward athletics. The five groups are: Alumni, Faculty, Parents of Student-Athletes, Students and Student-Athletes. Each group consisted of 300 individuals. Freshmen and Sophomore student-athletes and a control group of matched students (N = 234) at Iowa State University were administered the Noncognitive Questionnaire (NCQ). The NCQ has been shown to have validity in predicting first semester grade point averages;The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of noncognitive variables as predictors of first semester grade point averages of student-athletes;Results Showed that the three of the eight NCQ constructs (Community service, Support person and knowledge acquired in field) combined to predict first semester grade point averages of student-athletes (R =.38; p <.05). ACT scores had essentially no correlation with athletes grades (R =.05);It was concluded that ACT scores should not be used to prevent athletes from competing in their first year;Suggestions for programs that incorporated NCQ variables are made.

Two surveys were mailed to administrators and students of 23 identified graduate programs of hospitality education. Response rates of 87% and 47%, respectively, were achieved. A five-point rating scale (5 = very effective, 5 = very important) was used in both surveys;A profile of currently enrolled graduate students and characteristics of graduate programs of hospitality management were identified. Administrators identified the population of graduate students as 53% female, 52% international and 93% master's level.
