The Relationship Of A Basketball Efficiency Rating System To Game Outcome, Carol Elizabeth Jones

Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education Master’s Theses

The problem was to determine whether Smith's (1983) basketball efficiency rating system was a valid method of evaluating individual player's performance and predicting game outcome. Subjects were the 1990-91 Syracuse University men's collegiate basketball team and their opponents, 1991-92 University of Rochester men's collegiate basketball team and their opponents and four seasons {1988-1992) of the State University of New York, College at Brockport men's and women's collegiate basketball teams. Reading Attitudes, Achievement And Motivation Of Adult Male Prison Inmates, Kathleen M. Gould

Education and Human Development Master's Theses

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a strong relationship between reading attitudes and achievement of adult male inmates and what motivates them to want to learn to read. Eighty (80) inmates enrolled in the Pre-GED classes at a medium security prison in western New York were given a reading attitude inventory designed by the researcher based on the Estes Reading Attitude Scale. Reading scores for each student were also gathered from the TABE test. The relationship of the attitude inventory and achievement was then analyzed. A Call For Criteria, William Monroe Apr 1993

A Call For Criteria, William Monroe

Communication Studies Undergraduate Theses

Defining terms and goals is one of the most important issues in any decision making process. This thesis will examine the role of criteria in CEDA debate. It will begin by examining the history of academic debate and the evolution of CEDA. The role of criteria in both NDT debate and CEDA debate will be examined. It will then examine the past and current theory regarding criteria and the move on to an analysis of two different ways of viewing criteria: criteria as a rule and criteria as a definition. Finally, it will advocate a strict prima facie standard for ...

The Economic Implications Of Public Disability Insurance In The United States, Patricia. M. Danzon Jan 1993

The Economic Implications Of Public Disability Insurance In The United States, Patricia. M. Danzon

Health Care Management Papers

A review of previous analyses of labor supply effects of Social Security Disability Insurance (DI) concludes that estimates of labor supply effects and net social costs are upward biased because they ignore interactions between DI and other insurances. A model of optimal insurance, postinjury accommodations, and labor supply shows that reduction in labor supply and increase in consumption when disabled do not necessarily imply moral hazard. Optimal postinjury accommodations vary inversely with firm size. The Americans with Disabilities Act will reduce wages and labor supply of healthy workers, particularly in small firms. Effects on labor supply of the disabled are ...

Effective Techniques/Methods For Conference Presentations: Research Issues, John A. Henschke Edd Jan 1993

Effective Techniques/Methods For Conference Presentations: Research Issues, John A. Henschke Edd

IACE Hall of Fame Repository

Consistent pleas have been made for using participative techniques/methods in adult, continuing, community or extension education conference designs and presentations which assure more stimulating and proactive learning experiences. Despite these pleas, conference audiences, often quite large in number, are typically "treated" to lectures, papers, stilted presentations, etc., and have little opportunity for participation in the proceedings of the conference sessions. Nevertheless, many publications and one definition of "conference" suggest that although the degree of conference participativeness varies, the "better" ones have resource persons who not only imaginatively devise ways to obtain participants input via small group work as well ...

College Women Athletes' Knowledge And Perceptions Of Title Ix , Michael Paul Jacob Jan 1993

College Women Athletes' Knowledge And Perceptions Of Title Ix , Michael Paul Jacob

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

If athletes are to be the instrument for obtaining greater equality in sports, especially by legal recourse, then obviously they must be knowledgeable about Title IX. Historically, confusion has existed regarding the various facets of Title IX. Today, such a lack of understanding of Title IX may limit the possibility of pressing for legal action that would result in greater equity in sport. It seems imperative, therefore, that the people most effected by Title IX should be the most knowledgeable about it. The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine athlete's [sic] knowledge about Title IX; (2) assess ...

IKSs were classified into (a) decision making systems; (b) indigenous knowledge statements; and (c) indigenous technical practices. Followed by this, an instrument was developed to identify: (1) the extent to which selected indigenous decision-making systems are agreeable to farmers; (2) the extent to which statements regarding indigenous knowledge systems are believed to be true ...

An Analysis Of The Antecedents Of Successful Progress Toward Graduation By Student Athletes At Iowa State University , Roger Vike Hansen Jan 1993

An Analysis Of The Antecedents Of Successful Progress Toward Graduation By Student Athletes At Iowa State University , Roger Vike Hansen

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The publicity surrounding the low graduation rate of some collegiate student athletes has resulted in a number of studies attempting to discover significant predictors of student athlete graduation. Previous studies have relied upon relationships developed from zero-order correlation and multiple regression on a single dependent variable; either a dichotomously scored variable reflecting whether or not the student athlete graduated or cumulative grade point average (GPA). Too often, by the time the independent variables have manifested themselves, it was too late for the student athlete to successfully complete the academic requirements for graduation; This study hypothesized that (1) academic success consisted ...
