Institute for Student Learning Assessment

The phenomenon of learning abroad will not diminish in an increasingly globalized economy and it is important to better understand the interconnectedness of relationships, benefits, and potential detriments in this growing area of education. This study is an exploration of conceptualizations of nationality in educational spaces from a transnational perspective. I create a co-constructed narrative with a transnational student that traverses the borders of two nations, while considering the relations and practices of her experiences in association to my own in order to better understand national identity formation as it is interconnected with formal and implicit curriculum.

Illustrated children’s books are very valuable to the development of children by aiding in comprehension. According to Mary Renck Jalongo, author of Young Children and Picture Books, children can learn so much from reading stories, even fiction ones. Henry’s BIG Adventure centers on a young boy who finds an old photo album with pictures of several places he has never been before. The album leads him ...

In February 1994 Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Libraries embarked on an ambitious project to convert approximately one million pages of the congressional papers of Pennsylvania Senator John Heinz into digital format. [1] Innovative image-management and text-retrieval software created at CMU provides the ability to search and retrieve these papers. Named in memory of the late Senator, the Heinz Electronic Library Interactive On-line System (HELIOS) currently allows researchers to browse, search, view, and print over 434,000 digital images from the collection. Accessible through the campus network and the Internet, HELIOS dramatically increases depth of indexing and quality of retrieval beyond ...
