There is a recognized shortage of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) professionals who hold a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the field of CSD. The investigation into CSD students' views about pursuing a PhD is important to better understand and generate solutions to the PhD shortage. In January 2018, the Lynchburg College Doctor of Physical Therapy program sent a group of ten first- and second-year students to St. Lucia to provide therapy services to children in need across the island in five different special education schools. The group has been able to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Education in St. Lucia for the past three years in order to make a positive impact on the special education students and teachers. Three (3) Learning Objectives:
- To demonstrate how to engage youth (grades 6-12) in the prevention planning process through student leadership councils in the school and community domains. Also, how to engage the community and students to be actively involved in the reduction of substance abuse and other adolescent problem behaviors.
- To demonstrate the connection between three prevention models, Communities That Care (CTC), 40 Developmental Assets, and Positive Community Social Norms. Focus will be placed on how the three prevention frameworks work together to support the Social Development Model of preventing substance abuse.

Overall Wellness Of First Generation College Student-Athletes, Shane Warehime
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
The present study examined the overall wellness of first-generation student-athletes (FGSA) in comparison to non-first generation student-athletes (non-FGSA),first-generation college students (FGCS), and non-first generation college students (non-FGCS). Overall wellness was assessed using the Five-Factor WellnessInventory. Non-FGSA scored significantly higher than non-FGCS in overall wellness and life satisfaction. Non-FGSA and FGSA scored significantly higher than non-FGCS and FGCS in the physical self subscale (i.e., diet, exercise). In sum, athletics may play an important role in the wellness of student-athletes, which could be enough to mitigate any challenges that first-generation college students face.

Science and Engineering Saturday Seminars
This interdisciplinary (physical and life sciences) seminar exposes participants to cutting edge research at UMASS, Amherst, on cell imaging using a chip which gathers a variety of data on the activities of single cells. Part of the seminar will be a presentation of current research in this area, followed by hands-on activities and a visit to the lab where this research is conducted. Application of this new technology to brain research will be discussed as well as the NGSS standards alignment and classroom applications at various levels and disciplines.
