The agricultural sector in Tanzania is the backbone of economic and social development of her citizens who's liveli-hood depends on this sector for more than seventy five percent of the economy. Until significant efforts are undertaken to the make the agricultural sector move forward, Tanzania will lag behind in food security and abject poverty alleviation. The "Bridging the Gap" program provides an opportunity to explore the relationships between learning and power in international agricultural development partnerships. A USAID-funded partnership between Iowa State University and Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns, this farmer-to-farmer program sent groups of Iowan women farmers to Uganda to teach Ugandan women farmers with the objectives that Ugandans would move from subsistence to commercial farming and that both groups would benefit from the cultural exchange. A review of literature revealed a lack of research related to teacher involvement in school gardens. This research study provides more information to build on the body of knowledge pertaining to school gardens and more specifically the teacher involvement. The research study took place at Gifft Hill School, a private school, on St. John, USVI.
