The R Value At Vo2 Max During Maximal Graded Exercise Treadmill Tests Of Coronary Artery Diseased And Nondiseased Subjects, Sherry S. Williams
Masters Theses
This study examined the R value at VO2 max during maximal graded treadmill exercise tests to determine if it was a reliable indicator of VO2 max and could therefore be used as a test termination criterion. The subjects in this study were 160 coronary artery diseased (CAD) patients and 170 nondiseased individuals. Data were collected from existing stress test records. The R value was also analyzed to determine if proportions of diseased and nondiseased subjects were the same. The time it took 100 CAD patients to reach VO2 max and exhaustion once R rose above 1.00 was also examined.

The Effect Of A Weight Training Program On The Happiness Of Young Women, Natalie Dowty
The Effect Of A Weight Training Program On The Happiness Of Young Women, Natalie Dowty
Student Work
An increasing body of research indicates that exercise has some positive psychological effects. But few studies focus specifically on weight training as the treatment, or happiness as the dependent variable. Additionally, much research has focused on psychological state changes from immediately before, to immediately following a physical activity. Little has been reported on the relationship between weight training and general happiness over a longer period of time, (i.e. three to four months). The purpose of this study was: (a) to determine the effect of beginning and maintaining a regular weight training program on the happiness of previously sedentary women, (b) …

2: "The Mapping Of Chromosome 16", Norman A. Doggett, Raymond L. Stallings, Carl E. Hildebrand, Robert K. Moyzis
Genomics: Past & Future
Human chromosome 16 is the main focus of the mapping efforts at Los Alamos. The large photomicrograph on these opening pages illustrates the starting point for those mapping efforts, the evaluation of our chromosome-16-specific library of cloned fragments. Among the 23 pairs of human chromosomes, one pair, chromosome 16, is identified by fluorescence in-situ hybridization. Thousands of yellow fluorescent probes derived from the clone library have hybridized to both copies of chromosome 16. The high density and uniform coverage of the fluorescent signals were a strong indication that we could use the library to construct a map of overlapping cloned …
Ichthyosis: A Teacher's Manual, Deborah Brewster Vilas
Ichthyosis: A Teacher's Manual, Deborah Brewster Vilas
Graduate Student Independent Studies
"Ichthyosis: A manual For Teachers" addresses the needs of children born with a rare, congenital skin disorder. Not unlike children with cancer, asthma or diabetes, children with ichthyosis have special needs regarding their physical comfort and safety in the educational setting. This manual addresses these needs along the developmental continuum. Using Erik Erikson's eight stages of man as a guideline, this manual addresses the physical, medical and psychosocial needs of the ichthyotic child from infancy through adolescence.
Included in this manual is an explanation of the disorder, it's symptoms and treatments. Practical tips for day care workers, teachers, school nurses …

Natural History In Iowa: The Early Phases, David C. Glenn-Lewin, Thomas R. Rosburg
Natural History In Iowa: The Early Phases, David C. Glenn-Lewin, Thomas R. Rosburg
Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS
Natural history in Iowa prior to the 20th Century can be conveniently arranged into 4 phases: Native American, before the Louisiana Purchase, between the Louisiana Purchase and about 1850, and after 1850. Native American natural history was extensive and had a distinctly spiritual character. Natural history was a component of European exploration up to the time of the Louisiana Purchase, but was not treated as a separate endeavor; the evidence from this period comes from the journals and diaries of early exploreres, fur traders and the like. Between the Louisiana Purchase and about 1850, natural history changed from its status …

G92-1101 Dairy 10-Point Quality Control Program--Mastitis Treatment Records, Jeffrey F. Keown
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide presents a mastitis treatment record keeping system that will help to reduce the chances of having adulterated milk enter the milk tank.
Starting July 1, 1993, the national Milk and Dairy Beef Quality Assurance Program will become effective. This program is a direct result of media attention concerning milk quality. It also reflects a growing consumer concern with drug residues in the nation's food supply chain. The American Veterinary Medical Association and National Milk Producers Federation responded to these concerns by developing a ten-point Milk and Dairy Beef Residue Prevention Protocol.

This NebGuide discusses IRA, SEP and Keogh plans in the context of an employee benefit provided by the employer.

G92-1071 Ridge Plant Systems: Weed Control, Robert N. Klein, Gail A. Wicks, Alex Martin, Russell S. Moomaw, Fred Roeth, Robert G. Wilson, Paul J. Jasa
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Advantages and disadvantages of the ridge plant system, weed control before and at planting and economics of the system are discussed. Ridge planting combines tillage and herbicides to achieve improved weed control in row crops. Crop seed is planted into ridges formed during cultivation and/or ditching of the previous crop. In ridge planting, the planter follows the old row and ridge clearing sweeps or disks move the surface soil, residue and much of the weed seed out of the row. Weed seeds are deposited between the rows where, upon germination, they can be controlled with cultivation. Two cultivations are generally …
