The integration of virtual reality (VR) and education is a key way to realize the modernization of higher education. Instructors’ competencies directly affect students’ learning experiences and achievements. Based on the IBSTPI competency standards compiled by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTPI), this study developed an instructors’ competencies scale suitable for the VR environment from the perspective of students’ learning experience and conducted an empirical research on the current situation of instructors’ competencies in VR environment. This paper prorposes eight design principles to nurture autonomy of college students, based on re-conceptualization of Michael Moore's Transactional Distance Theory (TDT). After proposed in 1970’s, TDT has been helping to concepturalize distance education in terms of psychological, not physical, distance among people involved. Learning Management Systems (LMSs) have been widely adopted in higher education worldwide, but predominately used as repositories of learning materials. Mobile access to LMSs enables greater mobility and flexible learning, and thus may help boosting non-repository uses of LMSs, maximizing their educational affordance. This study examined the extent to which mobile access to an LMS, Moodle, was used for various learning activities, with a focus on those beyond storing and retrieving learning materials, as well as the factors influencing students’ non-repository uses of LMS via mobile access. Comparison Of Online And Onsite Students’ Learning Outcomes And Experiences In A Massively Open Online Course In China, Weichao Chen, Jiyou Jia

This paper compares the achievements and learning experiences of onsite and online students participating in a Massively Open Online Course (MOOC) in China. Altogether 192 Chinese students learned face-to-face, and another 311 Chinese learners participated online. In regard to learning performance, onsite learners had a lower attrition rate than the online students. However, for learners who had completed all their learning assignments, no significant difference was detected between the onsite and online participants’ average assignment scores, and they were equally likely to win two of the learning awards.
