Respondus has launched a new proctoring format, “live proctoring with Zoom.” This format is intended to be used with small classes, as the instructor will serve as the proctor. To learn more about Respondus Live Proctoring, look for the Live Proctoring Quick Start Guide, found in Faculty Commons.

SWOSU Faculty Focus - Dr. Mark Garcia

Originally from California, Dr. Mark Garcia was born and raised in a small Central Valley town. Growing up among the farm animals and hiking through the rolling foothills of the valley gave Dr. Garcia a great appreciation for nature and animals.

CETL will be launching Blackboard Ally, an accessibility tool, in Canvas. Blackboard Ally will review documents uploaded into Canvas and make recommendations on improving accessibility. CETL will conduct a pilot in Spring 2022, which will be led by Steve Ray III, CETL Teaching and Learning Coordinator. Be looking for more information in the upcoming months.

Dr. Mapopa Sanga, CETL Teaching and Learning Coordinator, will be leading the faculty/staff training over the new quizzing tool in Canvas.

LinkedIn Learning offers many training videos for faculty, staff, and students.

Canvas is introducing New Quizzes, which will be a change in the way quizzes are developed. Be looking for training from CETL to help navigate the transition!

The Instructional Excellence Academy is under construction! Class Five of the Instructional Excellence Academy will be launching in 2022! New direction, new format, and new information will be the focus of the revisions. More about the change in the coming months.

Our last 5C’s and R presentation, Relevance is in a new format. We decided to ask faculty and staff how they made changes to help with the “new normal” we have faced this year. Ashley Walkup created a great PowerPoint to highlight information we received. The PowerPoint is in Faculty Commons, just click on the 5C’s and R link found on the homepage. Thank you to everyone that contributed! SWOSU faculty and staff provided excellent instruction and assistance even in these challenging times!

Finals are fast approaching, and with it comes entering final grades. This semester entering final grades can be a one-stop process in Canvas. Please check Faculty Commons for information on the process, as well as a quick video, that goes through the process with narration.

As with instructors and departments fall 2019 has been a busy time in CETL. We hosted two 5 C’s and R luncheons (more about that later in this newsletter) as well as assisted many instructors on both the Weatherford and Sayre campuses. We are also working on the implementation of “Zoom rooms” for spring 2020.

I cannot believe that October is already here! With enrollment starting, we also understand that instructors are wanting to work on setting up their spring 2020 courses. Our projected timeline for opening the spring courses in Canvas is November, prior to Thanksgiving break.

Canvas has been revising all the gradebook features during the past couple years. Since the current Canvas gradebook will be deprecated in June or July, SWOSU will be changing to the New Gradebook on May 7. All grades will transfer over appropriately. Go to https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13745 to view the guide for the New Gradebook. The ability for faculty to replace a student’s final grade calculated through Canvas activities with a manually entered grade is in the near future. This change allows instructors to adjust the final grade for a student if needed in the course, such as before sending course grades …

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is once again offering two registration scholarships per academic department to attend the 2019 Transformative Learning Conference in lovely downtown Oklahoma City, OK. The conference will be held March 13 -14, 2019. If awarded the scholarship, CETL will pay the conference registration fee of $349. CETL will provide a van, if you do not go in the van; travel is on your own. Selection will be on a first come first served basis.

• Insight into what Canvas’ team is working on right now and a way for you to give the Canvas Product team timely feedback to help guide their decisions
• An opportunity to share ideas about anything to do with Canvas, whether the Product team is focusing on that area of the application right now or not.
