The 2007-08 men's ice hockey season was not a typical one for the University of Maine. Maine's string of nine consecutive NCAA appearances, second only to Michigan, was finally snapped. Gone were Josh Soares, Michel Leveille and Mike Lundin, players who had a hand in leading Maine to the NCAA Frozen Four in three of the past four seasons. In addition, the Los Angeles Kings (NHL) signed 2007 Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Teddy Purcell after just one season at Maine, leaving the Black Bears without seven of their top 10 scorers from 2006-07.

The Defined Benefit Pension Plan (Pension Plan) is a closed plan which is maintained for eligible employees who chose not to join the Defined Contribution Plan established for hourly employees on July 1, 1998. This plan covers a shrinking closed group of active employees; the rest are vested terminations and pensioners. The Defined Benefit Plan is a separate trust with assets that exceed the Pension Plan actuarial accrued liability.

From The Fair To The Laboratory: The Institutionalization Of Agricultural Science And Education In Maine, Thomas Reznick

Maine History

Up until the mid-nineteenth century, agricultural science and education in Maine were primarily local affairs. Meeting in farm clubs and attending agricultural fairs, the Maine farmer performed most research by trial and error and by meeting on common ground with other farmers to discuss what worked and what did not. By the mid-nineteenth century, however, the farm clubs and county fairs waned and succumbed to the growing political influence of the Grange, which supported burgeoning agricultural scientific and educational institutions, such as the College of Agriculture and the Experiment Station.
