Land Grant Education in Rhode Island began with the awarding of 1862 Morrill Act funds to Brown University, making it Rhode Island's first Land Grant College. Continuing controversy over the next two decades mostly through Rhode Island's Grange and other farm organizations led to the formation of the Rhode Island College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts (RICA&M; now the University of Rhode Island or URI). STUDY ONE: This study examines the changes made to the biography and works of the Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez (c.1450-1521) through the eight editions of A History of Western Music and its associated score anthologies from 1960 to 2010. Mark D. McGarvie's One Nation Under Law is the most innovative recent study of church-state relations in the early republic. McGarvie argues that the separation of church and state resulted from the contract clause of the Constitution, not the First Amendment, and that the separation of church and state was the original intent of the Constitution's Framers. The Framers sought to reconstruct American society along liberal lines, replacing both colonial Christian communitarianism and classical republicanism with a radical new society.

Interest in integrative health care is a growing area of health practice, combining conventional medical treatments with safe and effective complementary and alternative medicine. These modalities relate to both improving physical and psychological well-being, and enhancing conventional talk therapy. In an interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching and library faculty have created a series of sixteen on-line video interviews that introduce practitioner-relevant experiences to students as supplemental course material.
