The book was an entirely in-house project, from content development to copyright and printing. It is available in the EKU Bookstore for $19.60 (fall 2011).

The authors’ purpose in this seventh book in the “It Works for Me” series is to demonstrate that “everyone possesses creative talent, though it may be latent in some and difficult to bring out in others. What is “ba”? I am not a Japanese-speaker; I’m not deeply acquainted with Japanese culture. But in reading about ba and “learning organizations” and knowledge creation, it’s been very easy for me to discern seeds of ba at Grand Valley. In the effort underway for several years now to allow each discipline to define its own benchmarks and best practices, to develop its own specific guidelines for progress toward tenure and promotion, I see elements of ba. For much of its history, the organizational culture for academic librarians and archivists at The University of Western Ontario was primarily a culture of the practitioner. While librarians and archivists supported teaching, research and service at Western, they did not directly engage in it. As a result of grassroots efforts undertaken by members of Western’s academic community in the mid-2000s however, the potential contributions of information workers to the teaching, research and service mandate of University began to garner recognition.
