Key elements of an effective professional learning community will be discussed, including readings, peer mentoring, meeting structure, composition, and timing of topics. Presenters will discuss the challenges of their first years as chairs, particularly finding their individual leadership styles and a balance between professional and personal lives.

In the ever-growing discussion of how to build and support honors programs that reflect the diverse communities our institutions serve, the recruitment of transfer students has only recently been identified as a key avenue to enacting more equitable programs. Reflecting on four years of recruiting, enrolling, and graduating transfer students in the University Honors Program at the University of California, Davis, we push the conversation beyond how to welcome transfer students in honors to how to meaningfully support them. Presenters will share the process of developing a cross-mentoring program designed to support faculty in teaching and scholarship. The program provided professional development through workshops and peer-mentoring in teaching through the use of video analysis. Presenters will discuss empirical results, lessons learned, and recommendations for replication in other institutions.
