The purpose of this study was to determine whether non-traditional female students (25 years or older) differ significantly from traditional age students in demographic profile, awareness, and usage of services and in perception of the learning environment;The study also sought to measure any significant differences between the two colleges used for the study and their respective main and satellite campuses when compared on the same variables;A questionnaire was administered to 500 female students whose classes and programs had been randomly drawn Spring 1987. College students are subject to a number of influences other than their classroom learning. According to Longino and Kart (1973), the impact that higher education has on its clientele is largely mediated through its subgroups. The role of college residences in the development of the higher education population has been discussed by many authors (Baird, 1969; Chickering, 1972; LonQino & Kart, 1973). Chickering (1972) suggests that residential environments provide an opportunity for student development and the formulation of personal values. Computer assisted career guidance systems were designed to combine the power of computers with career development theory to assist students in self assessment, career exploration, occupational and educational planning and decision making. Two systems used at educational institutions are DISCOVER (American College Testing Program), and System of Interactive Guidance and Information, abbreviated SIGI-PLUS (Educational Testing Service). There has been limited research examining what effect these systems have on career development in students.
