While requirements for acquiring the F-1 visa are a matter of federal policy, some of the principles regulating orientations, host families, and home-stays do not align with best practices found at the university level, which include quality student orientations and thorough trainings with a vetting process for host families and home-stays. School leaders at an urban public high school implemented the Check and Connect (C&C) program to improve student engagement outcomes for at-risk students in 2010-2011. No formal program evaluation of C&C had been conducted in the 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 school years to show whether the program was effective. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between successful school completion and participation in the C&C program. In order to serve its nontraditional students, a university piloted a competency-based program as alternative method for its students to earn college credit. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to conduct a summative program evaluation to determine if the program was successful in order to make decisions about program revision and expansion. The DOE Technical Qualification Program (TQP) applies to federal employees tasked with oversight, direction, and assistance to contractors at defense nuclear facilities. Many middle school students are considered at-risk due to attendance, lower levels of academic achievement, and behavior referrals. Mentoring programs have been in effect for decades and continue to yield positive results. The purpose of the study is to determine if fourth and fifth grade at-risk students are impacted by mentoring. The researcher seeks to determine if mentoring increases students’ attendance, increases math and reading test scores, and decreases the amount of behavior referrals. Limited empirical support presently exists for the use of music as a behavioral intervention for students with disabilities. The purpose of this research was to study whether the social behaviors of children enrolled in a developmental preschool classroom changed in response to live piano music. The principal investigator hypothesized an increase in dyadic and/or other group-oriented play in the presence of live piano music, compared to when no piano music played. The research conducted tested a theory based on work by Tinto (1999), Astin (1984), and the Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE, 2012) that multiple interventions are needed to significantly improve graduation rates at community colleges. The literature says little about this approach for community college students; therefore, this dissertation contributes to the knowledge base for educational programs. A first-year program at a large, diverse community college using multiple interventions assisted in determining the validity of the theory. This study investigated validity evidence for the Science Literacy Assessment, an instrument designed to assess middle school students’ ability to think scientifically as well as their motivation and beliefs about science (Fives, Huebner, Birnbaum, & Nicolich, 2014). Specifically, three sources of evidence were considered; internal structure, concurrent criterion-related, and predictive criterion-related. Exploratory factor analysis was utilized to examine the underlying factor structure of each of the instrument’s two components, motivation and beliefs related to science and demonstrated scientific literacy. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of acquiescence on both positively and negatively worded questions, both when unidimensionality was assumed and when it was not. To accomplish this, undergraduate student responses to a previously validated survey of student engagement were used to compare several models of acquiescence, using a priori goodness-offit statistics as evidence for model fit, in order to develop a model that adequately accounted for acquiescence bias. การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 2 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อพัฒนาตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการจัดการเรียนการสอนด้วยภาษาอังกฤษแบบบูรณาการ และ 2) เพื่อตรวจสอบคุณภาพตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการจัดการเรียนการสอนด้วยภาษาอังกฤษแบบบูรณาการ โดยมีกรอบการวิจัยตามโมเดล CIPPI วิธีดำเนินการวิจัยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ระยะ คือ 1) ระยะพัฒนาตัวบ่งชี้และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการ โดยการศึกษาเอกสารงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องให้ได้ร่างองค์ประกอบ และตัวบ่งชี้ จากนั้นดำเนินการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลด้วยแบบสัมภาษณ์ จำนวน 4 โรงเรียน โดยแบ่งเป็นโรงเรียนที่มีการปฏิบัติดี และโรงเรียนที่ดำเนินการปกติ รวบรวมข้อมูลและสังเคราะห์ข้อมูลเพื่อพัฒนาองค์ประกอบ ตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์ โดยใช้เกณฑ์เป็นระดับคะแนน 1 - 4 และ 2) ระยะตรวจสอบคุณภาพตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการ ตรวจสอบความสอดคล้องขององค์ประกอบ ตัวบ่งชี้ เกณฑ์จากผู้เชี่ยวชาญ จำนวน 7 ท่าน จากนั้นนำผลการตรวจสอบมาปรับปรุงองค์ประกอบ ตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์และทำการพัฒนาคู่มือการใช้ตัวบ่งชี้ และเกณฑ์การประเมินโครงการจัดการเรียนการสอนด้วยภาษาอังกฤษแบบบูรณาการ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ แบบสัมภาษณ์ และแบบประเมิน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้การวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา และวิเคราะห์เชิงปริมาณ ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า 1) ผลการพัฒนาตัวบ่งชี้และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการจัดการเรียนการสอนด้วยภาษาอังกฤษ ได้ตัวบ่งชี้ จำนวน 34 ตัวบ่งชี้ ภายใต้การประเมิน 5 ด้าน 14 องค์ประกอบ และ 2) คุณภาพของตัวบ่งชี้และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินโครงการจัดการเรียนการสอนด้วยภาษาอังกฤษโดยภาพรวมผ่านการตรวจสอบของผู้เชี่ยวชาญในระดับดี

การวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบและตัวชี้วัดสมรรถภาพของครูวิทยาศาสตร์ ระดับมัธยมศึกษา เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงบรรยาย มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1. วิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบและพัฒนาตัวชี้วัดในการวัดสมรรถภาพครูวิทยาศาสตร์ 2. ตรวจสอบคุณภาพตัวชี้วัดสมรรถภาพครูวิทยาศาสตร์ กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นครูผู้สอนกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้วิทยาศาสตร์ในโรงเรียนสังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน (สพฐ.) ในเขตกรุงเทพ จำนวน 468 คนที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงสำรวจ และจำนวน 658 คนที่ใช้เพื่อในการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงยืนยัน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยเพื่อการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงสำรวจ คือแบบวัดสมรรถภาพครูวิทยาศาสตร์ ประกอบไปด้วย 3 ตอน คือ ข้อมูลพื้นฐานของครูวิทยาศาสตร์ผู้ตอบ แบบวัดความรู้พื้นฐานทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ จำนวน 15 ข้อคำถาม และแบบวัดสมรรถภาพของครูผู้สอนกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้วิทยาศาสตร์ จำนวน 53 ข้อ โดยวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยโปรแกรม SPSS for windows ส่วนเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยเพื่อการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงยืนยัน คือแบบวัดสมรรถภาพครูวิทยาศาสตร์ ประกอบไปด้วย 3 ตอน คือ ข้อมูลพื้นฐานของครูวิทยาศาสตร์ผู้ตอบ แบบวัดความรู้พื้นฐานทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ จำนวน 10 ข้อคำถาม และแบบวัดสมรรถภาพของครูผู้สอนกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้วิทยาศาสตร์ จำนวน 26 ข้อ โดยวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยโปรแกรม Lisrel version 8.80 ผลการวิจัยพบว่า (1) สมรรถภาพของครูวิทยาศาสตร์ ระดับมัธยมศึกษาประกอบด้วย 5 องค์ประกอบ คือ 1) สมรรถภาพด้านการจัดการเรียนรู้วิทยาศาสตร์เน้นผู้เรียนเป็นศูนย์กลาง ซึ่งสัมพันธ์กับครอบครัวและชุมชน 2) ความสามารถในการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบสะเต็มศึกษา (STEM) 3) สมรรถภาพด้านการพัฒนาผู้เรียนให้เป็นผู้เรียนในศตวรรษที่ 21 4) สมรรถภาพด้านการสื่อสารและการใช้ภาษา และ 5) สมรรถภาพด้านบุคลิกลักษณะความเป็นครู (2) การตรวจสอบความตรงเชิงโครงสร้างด้วยวิธีการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงยืนยัน พบว่า โมเดลสมรรถภาพครูวิทยาศาสตร์ ระดับมัธยมศึกษาทุกด้านมีความสอดคล้องกับข้อมูลเชิงประจักษ์ พิจารณาจากค่าไค-สแควร์สัมพัทธ์ของแต่ละโมเดลพบว่ามีค่าน้อยกว่า 2.00 คือมีค่าตั้งแต่ 0.00 - 1.12 ค่าดัชนีวัดระดับความกลมกลืน (GFI) ของแต่ละโมเดลมีค่ามากกว่า 0.95 คือมีค่าอยู่ระหว่าง 0.99 - 1.00 ค่าดัชนีวัดระดับความกลมกลืนที่ปรับแก้แล้ว (AGFI) ของแต่ละโมเดลมีค่ามากกว่า 0.95 คือมีค่าอยู่ระหว่าง …

This qualitative phenomenological dissertation explored The Departmental Work Lives of Full-Time Non-Tenure Track Faculty (FTNTT) at two public four-year universities located in the Southeastern region of the United States. This study is based on interviews with twelve (FTNTT) faculty members representing departments traditionally associated within the College of Arts and Sciences. This study found FTNTT faculty participants highly credentialed and reasonably satisfied in their positions. This study adds the descriptor heterogeneous to FTNTT faculty members’ job roles, work environments, daily engagements, and work experiences and contradicts existing literature that finds FTNTT faculty positions to be resource deficit and administratively non-supporting. …

This thesis uses a Mandarin-English dual immersion program at a Southern California public elementary school as a case study to examine how culture is taught and learned in the dual immersion setting. Based on classroom observations and interviews with students, staff, and parents, this thesis argues that concepts of “China” and “Chinese culture” are conveyed, constructed, and negotiated by students as well as teachers, both implicitly and explicitly.

Self-regulated learning is a phenomenon recognized in nations with positive results on international assessments, such as the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment; IES, 2012). This qualitative, non-evaluative study sought to determine the presence of self-regulated learning in a rural middle school in the south-central United States by utilizing a phenomenological approach.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2015), between 1996 and 2008, Black (African-American may be used interchangeably with Black, as defined through this study) college students had the lowest graduation rates among racial groups at four-year public institutions.
