Deliberate Response Falsification On Corresponding Subtests Of Two Tests Of Intelligence: Indicators For Simulating Mental Retardation, Denis William Keyes May 1992

Deliberate Response Falsification On Corresponding Subtests Of Two Tests Of Intelligence: Indicators For Simulating Mental Retardation, Denis William Keyes

Special Education ETDs

Among concerns inherent in psychological testing is the possibility that examinees might perform less than accurately or honestly when responding to test items (Lezak, 1983). In context of some legal proceedings, individuals may stand to gain by performing poorly on physiological tests (Anastasti, 1988). For example, defendants could attempt to falsify their answers to impersonate an individual with mental retardation for the purpose of raising issues of incompetence to stand trial, nonresponsibility, or mitigation. In some states, a finding of mental retardation may mean the difference between a life sentence and execution for a defendant convicted of a capital crime. …

School Size And Curriculum Provision In Years 11 And 12, Phil Mckenzie Apr 1992

School Size And Curriculum Provision In Years 11 And 12, Phil Mckenzie

Dr Phillip McKenzie

Do large secondary schools provide more comprehensive curricula in Years 11 and 12 than small schools? Is there an enrolment point beyond which the curriculum advantages of size are no longer evident? This paper examines these questions by drawing on preliminary results from a study of curriculum provision and resource use that is being conducted in conjunction with the University of New England. The study, which was funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC), uses data on the operations of four Australian government school systems in 1990. This particular paper focuses on Victorian schools. The paper has four main sections: …

A Concurrent Criterion-Related Validity Study Of The Academic Performance Rating Scale With The Behavior Rating Profile-Second Edition, Valerie S. Vida Apr 1992

A Concurrent Criterion-Related Validity Study Of The Academic Performance Rating Scale With The Behavior Rating Profile-Second Edition, Valerie S. Vida

Theses & Honors Papers

The Academic Performance Rating Scale (APRS ) (DuPaul, Perriello, & Rapport , 1991 ) was recently developed to identify children's academic performance and abilities in classroom settings. It was initially found to be a highly reliable scale, but a general behavior rating scale was not used as a criterion in establishing criterion-related validity. The Behavior Rating Profile (BRP-2) (Brown & Hammill , 1990) is a behavior rating scale used to assess the personal and social adjustment of elementary and secondary school students. Subjects for this study were private school students enrolled in grade levels first through fifth. Teachers completed both …

Learning Styles Of Introductory Accounting Students: An Extension To Course Performance And Satisfaction, Marshall A. Geiger Apr 1992

Learning Styles Of Introductory Accounting Students: An Extension To Course Performance And Satisfaction, Marshall A. Geiger

Accounting Faculty Publications

Togo and Baldwin (1990) have recently utilized Kolb's 1976 Learning Style Inventory (LSI) in the assessment of introductory accounting student performance. This study extends this earlier work by examining the effect of learning style, as measured by the 1985 LSI, on introductory exam performance and ratings of satisfaction with the introductory course. Learning style was found to be significantly related to overall exam performance; with those maintaining a similar learning style as the instructor (i.e. assimilator) performing best. Additionally, learning style was also found to affect student ratings of course satisfaction.

The Research Critique Approach To Educating Sociology Students, Rachel I. Filinson, Darek Niklas Apr 1992

The Research Critique Approach To Educating Sociology Students, Rachel I. Filinson, Darek Niklas

Faculty Publications

In recent years, instructors of methods courses have made a repeated plea in pedagogical journals for teaching students research techniques through "doing" or simulating a real project (Ballard 1987; Cutler 1987; Irish 1987; Ransford and Butler 1982; Stoddart 1987; Takata and Leiting 1987; Weiss 1987). Approaches are varied; they include individual, group, or class research projects that generate data for class-specific projects, collect data for external consumption, or use existing data. It is argued that the disembodied knowledge of scientific inquiry presented in the classroom must be supplemented concurrently by an exposure to the actual process of research. Only by …

the June graduating class for the years 1990 and 1991. These reports led to the production of the present report, which looks back over WWU's June graduates from the years 1981 through 1991. Information for this report was obtained from the Registrar's Office, through the Student Tracking System, maintained by the Registrar's Office and supplemented by the OIAT. Data was analyzed using fundamental descriptive statistics. Unlike the OIAT reports on graduates in 1990 and 1991, this report mainly consists of an array of tables. Interpretation of the tabular data is left to the discretion of the reader. A good deal …

An Analysis Of The Effects Of A Readjustment Of The Math Placement Test Cutoff Scores, Gary (Gary Russell) Mckinney, Jacqueline M. Andrieu-Parker, Joseph E. Trimble

Office of Institutional Effectiveness

Introduction In May, 1991, the Office of Institutional Assessment and Testing (OIAT) published a report that summarized analyses conducted to explore the relationship of the three levels of the Math Placement Test (MPT)--Basic Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Pre-Calculus-¬ with mathematics course selection and final mathematics course grade. Based on the MPT score, the probability of receiving a passing grade (C- or better) was computed for the majority of mathematics courses that a student may enroll in immediately after taking the MPT. Partly as a result of that report, in the fall, 1991, cut-off scores for admittance to certain mathematics courses …

Performance Prediction In Track And Field, Ted James Dabbs Apr 1992

Performance Prediction In Track And Field, Ted James Dabbs

Masters Theses

The study investigated the degree to which predicting performance in track and field relates to individual performances of track athletes. Predictive scores were determined for 26 male and 14 female athletes using prediction equations and test procedures developed by Henson, Turner, and Lacourse (1989a; 1989b). Predictive scores were compared to athletes' individual event point scores published in International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) men's and women's multi-event scoring tables ("Scoring Table for Men's," 1962; "Scoring Table for Women's," 1971).

Each subject's height, weight and age were recorded as well as performances on the following tests: vertical jump, standing long jump, five …
