The Effect Of Attending Behavior Training Upon Learning, Martha Sue Peden Dec 1974

The Effect Of Attending Behavior Training Upon Learning, Martha Sue Peden

Dissertations and Theses

Various studies have been implemented concerning the physiological and psychological components of attending behavior, particularly in the area of the exceptional child. Little has been done, however, to develop specific behavioral definitions of attending behavior and to incorporate these into treatment-based research programs involving normal children attending a regular public school.

The purpose of this investigation was to discover if children from a regular public elementary school who are deficient in attending behavior skills can be taught these skills in a short-term behavior modification program and to determine if the skills thus learned facilitate learning within the regular classroom setting.

A Comparison Of The Turse Shorthand Aptitude Test Scores & Other Factors For Predicting Achievement Of Students In Beginning Shorthand Of Woodway Senior High School, Dellazine Moran

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The first-year shorthand class of Woodway Senior High School was given the test instrument, The Turse Shorthand Aptitude Test, to determine whether achievement in shorthand could be predicted by the percentile rank achieved on The Turse Aptitude Test. Comparison was made of the shorthand grades; SCAT-Total, and Grade Point Averages. The only significant correlation found was between first semester grades of first-year shorthand and the overall grade point average which was significant at the .03 level. The second semester grades of first-year shorthand and the overall grade point average was significant at the .13 level.

The Effects Of Certain Group Guidance Procedures Upon The Attitudes Of Selected Eighth Grade Students Toward School, Self & Family, Donald Nall Aug 1974

The Effects Of Certain Group Guidance Procedures Upon The Attitudes Of Selected Eighth Grade Students Toward School, Self & Family, Donald Nall

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There is considerable evidence indicating great interest on the part of school counselors in the use of group procedures, but their reactions are mixed as to the effectiveness of such procedures. One reason for these mixed feelings is that many counselors question whether the group approach is a natural and appropriate way of being helpful to young people.

This study was made in an effort to measure the effect of group guidance activities upon the attitudes of certain selected middle school students. A planned group guidance program was initiated. Eighth grade students were divided into a control group (N=56 ...

The Effects Of A Short Term Preacademic Total Approach Program On The Language Development Of Disadvantaged Children, Doug Richter

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This research tests a short term total academic language development program on the development of language delayed children. It was hypothesized that an increase in vocabulary and response length after a six week treatment program would be reflected on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and the Mean Length of Response Test. The treatment program utilized both the group and tutorial approach emphasizing the basic skills associated with listening, language, reading, writing and arithmetic. The subjects were nine-preschool Head Start children participating in a summer program at Western Kentucky University. A comparison of the performance on pre and post test revealed ...

Danish Day Care As A Social Institution, Albert Sessions Belais, Ellane L. Kibel

Dissertations and Theses

A study of the social and cultural aspects of day care in Denmark. The thesis hypothesizes that experiences in the development of Danish day care are relevant to the future development of day care in the United States.

Interest in Danish day care was stimulated by the reports of Drs. Marsden and Mary Wagner (1970) which found Danish day care provided an intimate and innovative standard of care for young children.

Twenty centers of widely varied types were visited in Denmark. Information was gathered largely through unstructured interviews with child care staff and non-participant observation. Special attention was paid to ...

An Approach To Graduate Education With The Naval War College, Paul D. Barrish Apr 1974

An Approach To Graduate Education With The Naval War College, Paul D. Barrish

Theses and Major Papers

Defining positions af actors in a systematic representation of the real world can always be faulted; any reductive representation risks oversimplifying complex factors and interrelationships. In recognition of this shortcoming, a test of outcomes must be held in the real world to validate analytical hypothesis. The primary goal of this paper is to examine some contemporary management theories in assessing motivation of Naval War College (NWC) students. Their needs for accredited higher education are assessed using a limited survey; functional requirements of the NWC are compared with student held values as perceived by the author.

An Appraisal Of The American College Test As A Proficiency Examination At Western Kentucky University, Cheryl Chambless

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Since the initiation of the proficiency testing program at Western Kentucky University, there had not been a comprehensive report of the performance of students who received academic credit on the basis of the American College Test as a proficiency examination. Chemistry Departments In Predominantly Black Institutions, James O. Wear, Nirmal K. Shastri

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Chemistry programs in 87 predominantly Black institutions were compared by questionnaire survey. Advanced undergraduate courses were offered for chemistry majors by 86% of these schools, but only 28% offered research and independent study for undergraduates. Although there were extremes, most of the faculty taught 15 to 18 contact hours and their median salaries were below the national median. Library support seemed adequate with 1 to 1.5% of the total library materials being chemistry books, texts and reference, and the libraries of most schools had holdings of 15 principal chemistry-related journals. More than 90% of the schools were well-equipped with ...
