The study is a pre-test, post-test control group randomized quasi–experimental research design. The population comprised all SSII Biology Students in Lagos Education District II, with two intact classes of 60 students from two selected public secondary schools. Four instruments were used namely; Mastery Learning Strategy Instructional Aid, Conventional Teaching Strategy Instructional Aid, Biology Achievement Test (r = 0.77) and Biology Attitude Scale (r = 0.82). Six null hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings showed significant main effect of treatment on achievement (F _{(1, 59) =} 2399.983, P (.000) < .05), no significant main effect of gender on achievement (F _{(1, 59) =} 1.677, P (.201) > .05) and no …

The following is a case study one Illinois high school’s test results using the EXPLORE® and PLAN® tests in correlation with the students’ academic history. Juniors were administered the PLAN test in tenth grade and three years of academic history were reviewed. Seniors were administered the EXPLORE test in ninth grade, the PLAN test in tenth grade, and two years of academic history were reviewed. The results of this case study analysis have lead to recommendations regarding curriculum and its correlation to these specific standardized tests.

Increasing use of computers in schools has led to a mis-alignment between the way some students develop skill and knowledge and how they are tested. This paper reviews past research that demonstrates that paper-based tests that require students to produce written responses underestimate the achievement of students who are accustomed to writing on computer. The paper then explores how learning that occurs through other instructional uses of computers is not adequately captured by current testing practices.
