The Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) is a universal screen used to quickly assess the reading fluency of all Idaho public school students in grades kindergarten through third. The IRI is a tool that aids in the early identification of children with potential reading difficulties. Within the group of children with reading difficulties, some students have specific learning disabilities (SLD). Early identification of reading difficulties is critical to the success of all students who struggle with reading, especially students with SLD.
