Current schoolwide discipline models were studied in conjunction with a review of literature relating to discipline, and a schoolwide discipline model was subsequently developed for Thompson Elementary in the Bethel School District in the State of Washington. The schoolwide discipline model was developed to reflect the research and focused upon developing individual responsibility, reflection, and the use of literature to help students understand the values of work in everyday life.

The current building level emergency procedmes manual for Ilalko Elementary School in the Auburn School District in the State of Washington was reviewed and critiqued. The manual contains the school's emergency preparedness policies and procedmes to be implemented in the event of a disaster. The results of the review showed a need for updating policies and practices at the building level as well as creating additional resources to guide the school should other disasters occur which were not addressed in the current manual. A handbook was also created to increase teacher response effectiveness in the event of an emergency situation.

The purpose of this project was to help school administrators more effectively involve Hispanic parents in the education of their children both at school and in the home. To accomplish this task, principals and parents from four heavily impacted Hispanic school districts were interviewed. Research was undertaken of pertinent literature and a study of parent involvement programs was also included. Based upon analysis of interviews and research a conceptual framework on how to involve Hispanic parents in the education of their children was developed along with examples of specific programs and activities.

The purpose of the project is to create a systematic procedural manual for the disciplining of students protected under the mandates of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Research on the IDEA Amendments of 1997, as it pertained to the disciplining of students with disabilities was studied. A procedural manual, for administrators, and teachers was created. The manual includes case histories, which helped develop the discipline changes in IDEA Amendments of 1997. It also includes information and sample forms, which can be used to help navigate the discipline process.

The purpose of this study was to determine what factors female high school principals and assistant principals in Georgia perceived as barriers to women entering high school principalships. The factors presented to the participants were determined by a thorough review of the literature. A survey instrument with two sections was developed. Section one consisted of 12 factors often mentioned as barriers to women entering high school principalships. These factors were rated on a Likert scale which ranged from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Participants were also given the opportunity to list any other factors they perceived as barriers. This study was intended to explore the visionary leadership of assistant principals in public middle schools. A study of this type conducted on a statewide basis provided empirical information on the visionary leadership of assistant principals as perceived by themselves and their respective teachers in Georgia middle schools. Since a limited amount of research existed on the visionary leadership role of middle school assistant principals, this study helped to fill a void in the current professional literature. The purpose of this study was to identify the types of alternative schools in Georgia, to describe the characteristics of the alternative schools, and their students, and to determine the primary goals of the alternative schools. The descriptive information was collected from 97 public alternative schools. The data collected by a 44 item multiple response survey included the perceptions of Georgia's alternative school administrators. In order to better understand the realities of principal succession (an interactive sequencing process for changing school administrators) it was the purpose of this study to examine the relationship between four organizational frames (structural, human resource, political, and symbolic) delineated by Bolman and Deal (1997) and three traits noted in the literature as evident during school principal succession (predecessor leave-taking, succession source, and experience). There is little research regarding school principal succession, and concern exists regarding the adequacy of transition practices within organizations. The Role Of The Administrator In Creating An Inclusive Environment, Vicki S. Rasmussen

The role the administrator plays in the development of an inclusive environment was investigated by conducting a review of literature and conducting a study of administrative views of inclusion in one East Central Illinois school district. Results showed that the success of the implementation of an inclusive school environment depended upon the role that the administrator was willing to play. Traits common to administrators who were successful in fostering inclusion along with problems that may be encountered are discussed. Case studies are reviewed, collected data analyzed, and recommendations for future practice are presented.

The aims of this study were to determine the personal effects of student assault upon a teacher and what assaulted teachers feel that they need in the way of support. In particular, I wanted the study to focus on the personal aspects of the cases as I was convinced that assaulted teachers experience similar anxieties, fears and barriers to support and similar difficulties in having those feelings recognised. Many clinical studies of assault victim support have been conducted, however, seemingly none of them are specifically related to assault by a student upon a teacher. Problem. Small church-related colleges and universities are experiencing financial difficulties. This study assesses the institutional advancement programs at selected Seventh-day Adventist colleges and universities. The purpose of this examination was to analyze "what is" to determine the present-day process of the advancement function, and what "ought to be." These data will also suggest potential areas for growth and development.

An Assessment Of The Perceived Administrative Effectiveness Of Boarding School Principals In The North American Division Of The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Malcolm E. Hutchinson Jr.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the views held by those whose duties include the management and day-to-day operations of the secondary boarding schools within the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This refers specifically to superintendents, principals, and staff members
Method. The survey method was used to gather the data. Respondents were asked to complete an 84-item questionnaire. The population sample was made up of 320 staff members, 32 principals, and 31 superintendents. The data were analyzed using mean scores, percentile rankings, and ANOVA at an alpha of p < .05.
