In making decisions, stakeholders utilize not only quantitative information but also qualitative information, such as annual reports. However, annual reports in narrative form are often used to exaggerate company performance data. One aspect that influences stakeholders’ decision is tone. This study aims to examine the impact of positive tone disclosure in management analysis reports and discussions on company value. This study was conducted on 166 financial and property companies listed on the IDX. Management analysis and discussion reports were categorized according to their tone. This study investigates the financial innovation impact on bank market power in ASEAN banking from 2008 to 2018. It uses income diversification as a representative of financial innovation. The im- pact of countries’ development of financial innovation on market power is measured by the number of ATM, internet, and cellular phone users. The data panel regression model reveals that diversified banks may enjoy higher market power. This study aims to investigate the impacts of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in total and individual performance (“E”, “S”, and “G”) on firms’ intellectual capital (IC) efficiency. The Value-Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC) and Modified Value-Added Intellectual Coefficient (MVAIC) were used to measure IC efficiency. Meanwhile, the annual ESG index data from the ASEAN-4 were used to measure ESG from 2015 to 2020. The results show “E”, “S”, and “G” and total ESG positively affect firms’ efficiency in managing IC. This study aims to analyze the effect of bank ownership structure on loan growth before and during the pandemic. Specifically, we developed four models to capture different loan types provided in the Indonesian banking system; working capital, investment, consumer, and total loan growth. This study used 150 observations of commercial banks for 2019 (before the pandemic) and 2020 (during the pandemic). We conducted the regression method to test hypotheses. The paper enriches the existing literature on financial intermediaries’ operations in the face of uncertainty by empirically examining the impact of banking uncertainty on banks’ security holdings. Using bank-level data in Vietnam during 2007–2019 to compute a micro uncertainty proxy based on the dispersion of bank shocks, we document that banking uncertainty tends to enhance total security holdings at banks. Decomposing aggregate securities into disaggregate components, we find that safer investments (including government bonds and financial institution bonds) dominate the overall impact of banking uncertainty on security holdings, which completely offset a drop in the volume of riskier investments (including …

The Impact Of Geopolitical Risk On Corporate Investment: Evidence From Turkish Firms, Omer Faruk Tan, Hakan Cavlak, Yasin Cebeci, Necati Güneş

This study analyzes the effects of geopolitical risk on the corporate investment of 164 Turkish manufacturing firms listed in Borsa Istanbul (BIST). The time covers the period from 2005 to 2019, applying the system Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM) estimator. The results indicate that geopolitical risk hurts corporate investment in Turkey. Under uncertainty induced by geographical risk, firms prefer to decline their investment. Additionally, financially constrained (non-dividend, small, young) firms are more negatively affected than financially unconstrained firms. This study aims to determine the persistence of earning and its components and whether investors accurately evaluate the information related to the earning and its components. The study covers the firms operating in Borsa Istanbul between 2005-2017 time period. We sort the accruals and cash flows into five portfolios. Then, we employ linear regression and Mishkin test estimations. Moreover, we compare the asset pricing models with nine metrics in explaining the cash flow and accrual anomalies. This research aims to examine the effect of CEO characteristics on pre-earnings manage­ment profitability. CEO characteristics include gender, tenure, age, education level, founding-family status, and nationality. Pre-earnings management profitability is measured by return on assets minus discretionary accruals. Data analysis uses firm and year fixed-effect regression analysis. The result shows that female CEO, longer tenure CEO, CEO with higher education levels, and foreign CEO increase firms' profitability without engaging in earnings management. If Sharia securities investors make investment decisions considering Sharia principles, corporate tax avoidance should be viewed as a bad practice which is contradictory to Sharia principles and it is intolerable for this type of investors. Specifically, the paper analyses long-run, short-run and causal relationships between foreign direct investment and stock market development in Eswatini for the 1990 to 2018 periods. This study investigates the relationship between anti-corruption disclosure and earnings management. Firms that disclose anti-corruption are related to the lower earnings management. The sample consists of 207 firm-year observation from 2016-2018. The data are hand-collected for the anti-corruption disclosure and the rest of the firm’s data are obtained from the Osiris database. Our result indicate a significant negative relationship between anti-corruption disclosure and earnings management. The relationship is more pronounce for the profitable and smaller firms.
