Beauty And The Beast: Plastic Pollution In The Personal Care And Cosmetics Industry, Olivia Frantzeskos
Beauty And The Beast: Plastic Pollution In The Personal Care And Cosmetics Industry, Olivia Frantzeskos
Student Theses 2015-Present
This paper explores the history of plastic in the beauty and cosmetics industry, and how this toxic material is irreparably harming our ecosystems resulting from nonrecyclable packaging and a lack of microplastic management. Properly managing harmful plastics found in personal care and cosmetics products (PCCPs) is essential for minimizing toxic wastewater in raw sewage, landfills, and the ocean, as discussed in reports such as “Plastics in Cosmetics” by the UNEP. Furthermore, this paper presents an argument for why the personal care and cosmetics industry should be included in the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), which gives the EPA authority to …

Investigating A Mega-Merger: Contextualizing The T-Mobile Merger To The Consumer Welfare Standard And The Competition Standard, Rahul Sukesh
Fordham Undergraduate Law Review
This Note explores the ruling of the U.S. Judge Victor Marrero in favor of the merger between T-Mobile and Sprint in terms of the specifics of the merger itself, and more broadly, the two dominant schools of antitrust thought: the consumer welfare standard and the competition standard and the specifics of the merger itself. Highlighting issues of antitrust law, this Note will first outline certain background concepts necessary to understand legal precedence around antitrust law. This Note will then trace the merger overtime and focus on how various opposition forces, citing violations of antitrust law, amassed a large body of …

Assessing The Effects Of Ecotourism On The Developing World: A Galapagos Case Study, Ife Adelona
Assessing The Effects Of Ecotourism On The Developing World: A Galapagos Case Study, Ife Adelona
Student Theses 2015-Present
Over the past decade, ecological tourism in the Galapagos has gained popularity. The local population of people living in the Galapagos is around 30,000; this includes, permanent residents, temporary residents, and immigrants. Tourist visitation within the 5 human inhabited islands is 200,000 people annually. The romantic idea of a pristine natural environment entices humans from across the globe to visit this World Heritage site. However, the growing attraction of this natural landmark has led to resource exploitation and the commodification of natural landscapes. In recent years, the Galapagos has developed its infrastructure in order to sustain the influx of tourists …
What Is Character And Why It Really Does Matter, Thomas A. Wright, Tyler L. Lauer
What Is Character And Why It Really Does Matter, Thomas A. Wright, Tyler L. Lauer
Business Faculty Publications
Conclusion:
In presenting our overview of character, we set out to challenge the increasingly prevalent (and narrow) self-interest perspectives of character considered as merely freefloating values and cults of personality. One can almost hear Theodore Roosevelt’s eloquent call for a renewal of more traditional views of character. Our take-away point is simple. As with the impending financial debacle, we find ourselves in a similar moral dilemma. The time is now to carefully consider the many benefits of character and character-based leadership
Underwriting Syndicates In Bric Countries: Determinants Of Syndicate Size And Member Selection
Underwriting Syndicates In Bric Countries: Determinants Of Syndicate Size And Member Selection
Fordham Business Student Research Journal
The process of startup firms raising capital through equity markets by issuing shares to the public is a strong sign of financial growth and innovation. Going public requires the issuing firm to share information with potential investors and requires financial institutions to underwrite the effort, typically through a syndicate. The underwriting syndicate is a coalition of competing banks that serve as intermediaries between the firm and the investors. In emerging nations, this process is compounded by the differences in the maturity of the financial markets and the economic environment. The growth and significance of capital markets in the BRIC (Brazil, …
Fund-Management Gender Composition: The Impact On Risk And Performance Of Mutual Funds And Hedge Funds, Angela Luongo
Fund-Management Gender Composition: The Impact On Risk And Performance Of Mutual Funds And Hedge Funds, Angela Luongo
Fordham Business Student Research Journal
This paper examines gender differences in fund managers’ risk tolerance and performance. We explore these differences in both the universe of U.S. mutual funds and hedge funds using risk and performance metrics that cover one-year, three-year, and five-year horizons. We find that funds managed by women outperform those managed by men with less risky portfolios. The outperformance persists after adjusting for risk. Overall, the results indicate that female fund managers are severely underrepresented despite their quality performance. A workgroup comprised more equally of male and female managers is likely to lead to greater stability in the financial markets due to …
Countering Counterfeits: An Investigation Of Message-Frame And Message-Focus Effects On Persuasion, Caroline Dahlgren
Countering Counterfeits: An Investigation Of Message-Frame And Message-Focus Effects On Persuasion, Caroline Dahlgren
Fordham Business Student Research Journal
The prevalence of counterfeit products throughout the world has greatly increased over the course of the past two decades. These goods span a wide array of industries and vary greatly in quality, aesthetics, and price. There have been reports of counterfeits in nearly every sector of the economy; counterfeit goods include airline parts, dry wall, handbags, pharmaceuticals, and baby food (International Chamber of Commerce, 2008). Each industry engages in its own battle with these products and counterfeiters, in hopes of protecting its intellectual property, consumers, and its bottom line. The roots of the counterfeiting industry are deeply intertwined with various …
