An Examination Of Reward-Based Crowdfunding Performance And Success, Matthew Alan Grace
An Examination Of Reward-Based Crowdfunding Performance And Success, Matthew Alan Grace
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Reward-based crowdfunding (RBCF), where fundraisers raise funds from a crowd of investors in return for a reward, has carved a niche as a proven option for not just entrepreneurs seeking early-stage funding, but also for established firms looking to presell or market a new product or service. Establishing crowdfunding performance and success factors is important for researchers and practitioners alike. Fortunately, a large portion of the RBCF academic literature is immediately applicable to entrepreneurs, with very little additional interpretation required. However, important questions about RBCF remain. The first paper in this three-part dissertation, a systematic literature review, examines some of …
For Love Or Money: Investor Motivations In Equity-Based Crowdfunding, Jason C. Cherubini
For Love Or Money: Investor Motivations In Equity-Based Crowdfunding, Jason C. Cherubini
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Crowdfunding is an increasingly popular method for entrepreneurial ventures to raise financing from a large number of small supporters (the “crowd”) instead of raising it through a small number of larger supporters. Crowdfunding is normally conducted through online platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, where the entrepreneurial venture runs a campaign directly seeking support from individual funders. Most of the research into crowdfunding to date has been focused on what elements of the crowdfunding campaign lead to eventual successful funding, especially in the rewards-based crowdfunding space. The comparatively new equity-based crowdfunding has not been as heavily researched and is technically …

Women entrepreneurs in the Sub-Saharan region have additional struggles to start and sustain their businesses. Journal of Global Business Insights
Women’s participation and activation of their role in societies are central goals among the UN’s global aims. This research accomplished the following objectives: first, expands the existing knowledge of women’s intentions and their startup desirability for small projects; second, explores the perceived outcomes; and third, develops an action plan based on the current constraints women face when leading small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) projects. Data were collected from an online questionnaire of 433 entrepreneurs based in Saudi Arabia (26.3% university staff, 23.1% project starters, 22.9% bank loan holders, 16.2% university students, and 11.5% leaders). The partial least squares path modeling …

Journal of Global Hospitality and Tourism
Hosts of sharing accommodation platforms are considered an evolving mode of entrepreneurs. This study aimed to examine the relationship among entrepreneurship capital (EC), perceived feasibility (PF), perceived desirability (PD), and entrepreneurial intention (EI) in sharing lodging by using the entrepreneurial event (SEE) model. Particularly, EC was evaluated as a second-order factor with four first-order sub-variables: financial, social, intellectual, and human capital (HC). Data were collected from online surveys completed by 328 respondents. Second-order factor analysis and structural equation modeling were used in the analysis. Results confirmed that all four sub-variables contributed to inclusive capital. Inclusive capital positively influenced PF and …

National Culture Dimensions As Predictors Of Innovation, Creativity, And Entrepreneurship, Louis F. Jourdan Jr., Michael Smith
Journal of Global Business Insights
The purposes of this study were twofold. The first was to encourage other investigators to examine more closely three indices related to economic growth, specifically innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity. The second was to encourage further investigation of Hofstede’s national culture as explanatory variables. This investigation addressed this research gap by examining the relationships among indices of nations’ creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and their relationships with Hofstede’s (2015) national culture dimensions. No previous research was identified which examined countries’ creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the same study. The relationships among four measures associated with economic development—the Global Innovation Index (GII), the …

Journal of Global Business Insights
Despite the usefulness of the theory of planned behavior in predicting intention and behavior in different domains, the sufficiency of its use in predicting and determining intention has been debated by many scholars. This paper extended the theory of planned behavior by including social support as a possible determinant of intention in the entrepreneurship domain while looking at one of the largest universities in Nigeria. Data were collected from 432 final year students of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria using a simple random sampling technique. Structural equation modeling was adopted using partial least square technique for data analysis. Perceived social …

This article presents a critical approach to the proposal of socio-intercultural entrepreneurship. The concept of cultural and social entrepreneurship and that which has been as a product of neoliberalism is limited, so a framework analysis is necessary to improve the understanding of socioeconomic realities. Through an exploratory and analytical research methodology, a review of pertinent literature and the exemplification of the specific case of a postgraduate program in economics and international business at the Universidad Autónoma Indígena de México, it is concluded that socio-intercultural entrepreneurship presents a theoretical and methodological frame that allows entrepreneurs to have a major perception of …

Ai As A Boost For Startups Companies: Evidence From Italy, Irene Di Bernardo, Marco Tregua, Greco Fabio, Ruggiero Andrea
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Innovative startups are growing everywhere; clearly, digital transformation is imperative for all businesses to compete, or better survive. Institutions prompt companies and businesses to adopt digital transformation tools, providing funds too, especially to startups (MISE, 2019).In particular, this study analyzes Artificial Intelligence, understanding its implications, ties and features in startups. No commonly agreed definitions are given about AI and startups, thus the tie between them should be deepened. One of the most cited definitions considers startup as a temporary organization looking for scalable business models (Blank, 2013). In literature little attention has been paid to the connection between startup and …

The research sharing platform of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) states that John Komlos’s textbook Foundations of Real-World Economics: What Every Economics Student Needs to …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This purpose of this dissertation is to examine the progressive and regressive factors that affect a small business owner’s decision to implement an exit strategy. An exit strategy can be defined as an entrepreneur's strategic plan to sell his or her investment in a company he or she has controlling interest in. An exit strategy gives a business owner a way to reduce or eliminate his or her stake in the business and, if the business is successful, make a substantial profit. Exiting a business is a complicated process which includes among other things, the evaluation, preparation, marketing, and ultimate …
The Great Recession Of 2007 And The Housing Market Crash: Why Did So Many Builders Fail?, Mohamad Ali Hasbini
The Great Recession Of 2007 And The Housing Market Crash: Why Did So Many Builders Fail?, Mohamad Ali Hasbini
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The “Great Recession” of 2007 created havoc in the homebuilding industry, more than any other previous economic down cycle. Countless seasoned local homebuilders across the country did not survive. The impact of their failure on the economy, community, employment, lenders, suppliers, and subcontractors was devastating. While previous studies have sought to identify the symptoms and causes of business failure, very little research has been done on home builder business failure due to acts, omissions, characteristics, or other events which are non-financial. Specifically, those that are attributable to the failed entities' top management and leadership during the housing crisis and the …

The relationship between leadership behavior and firm performance has always been a focus of academic research. This study offers a theoretical model that examines strategic flexibility as an intermediate mechanism in the relationship between transformational leadership and firm performance. On the basis of the dynamic environment in China, we tested environmental dynamism as a moderator in this relationship, empirically validated our hypotheses. We conducted questionnaire surveys of the senior managers of 328 companies located mainly in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong, and received 210 valid samples. The results show that strategic flexibility has a fully mediating role in the relationship between …

Restoring The Relevance: Conceptualizing A Collaboration Model For Business Schools, Obed R. Syed, Rosmini Omar

However, there is eclipse in the literature with reference to collaboration models that generally maps the linkage of business schools with stakeholders. Potential stakeholders of business schools in this study are discussed in two broad segments, namely, primary and secondary stakeholders. Primary stakeholders are students and alumni, and secondary stakeholders are business organizations, non-business organizations and academic institutions. To understand and specify needs and expectations of stakeholders, business schools first need definite mission and …

Financial Literacy And The Success Of Small Businesses: An Observation From A Small Business Development Center, Pearl Dahmen, Eileen Rodríguez

Small business is the backbone of the U.S. economy; when the financial literacy skills of entrepreneurs fall short of those needed to operate a successful business, it is more than the individual business at risk. In 2012, 14 small businesses requesting growth-acceleration consulting services from the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida were assessed financially as part of the service provided by the Center. Financial ratios were used to analyze the business’s financial condition. While performing the financial analysis of these firms, we also surveyed the business owners to determine their level of financial understanding …
