Professional Identity And You: Why Self-Concept Matters In Librarianship, Kevin Tanner Nov 2015

Professional Identity And You: Why Self-Concept Matters In Librarianship, Kevin Tanner

FIMS Presentations

Kevin Tanner addresses the importance of professional identity in librarianship. In the Summer 2015 semester, he completed an independent study on the construction of professional identity of librarians on Twitter through professional development and networking. During this session, he shares the results of that study and give suggestions on how you can begin to find your own professional identity while still retaining your individuality. While there are many stereotypes about librarians, they are not “one-size-fits-all” professionals, and a new modern image of the professional has begun to emerge in the digital age through a thoughtful reflection on identity.

Boom & Bust: The Perils Of Guaranteed Long Term Contracts. Evidence From Ops100 Performance Over The Contract Cycle, Heather M. O'Neill Jul 2015

Boom & Bust: The Perils Of Guaranteed Long Term Contracts. Evidence From Ops100 Performance Over The Contract Cycle, Heather M. O'Neill

Business and Economics Faculty Publications

This study focuses on panel data of 256 MLB free agent hitters under the 2006-2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to demonstrate that hitters, on average, increase their offensive production, measured by OPS100, during the last year of their contract and subsequently underperform the first year of the newly signed long term contract. The contract year phenomenon arises from the incentive to land a lucrative guaranteed contract for players not intending to retire. Signing a long term guaranteed contract creates an incentive to shirk (underperform) the first year of the new contract because performance and pay become unlinked and the need …

Alone And Unafraid: Observations On Functional Leader Intervention In Decentralized Organizations, Marc W. Miller May 2015

Alone And Unafraid: Observations On Functional Leader Intervention In Decentralized Organizations, Marc W. Miller

TAC Talks

Today’s organizations whether political, non-profit, or commercial have adjusted their way of thinking to fit the twenty first centuries atmosphere of instantaneous information and shifting market places. As such these organizations have had to adapt and think in this fluid space becoming more decentralized in their characteristics, entrusting crucial decisions to empowered leaders. However, when, where, and why do these leaders chose to act within their organizations? This has led me to ask the question under what circumstances, at what points, and at what times, in a decentralized organizations’ process can leaders most effectively assert their authority so as to …

The Corporate Shell Game Presentation, J.S. Nelson Feb 2015

The Corporate Shell Game Presentation, J.S. Nelson

J.S. Nelson

This presentation on The Corporate Shell Game identifies for the first time the hardening of the corporate shell. It provides compelling evidence that shell-hardening pushes and disguises the way that corporations and agents commit large-scale wrongdoing, and it traces the contributing legal streams that protect the agents who engage in this behavior. The only way to combat widespread frauds that inflict damage on the public is for the corporate shell to become less opaque.
