Factors For Effective Facilitator Training Evaluation, Mark I. Wade
Factors For Effective Facilitator Training Evaluation, Mark I. Wade
Theses and Dissertations
This study evaluated the TQM facilitator training course at Wright-Patt Campus, Wright-Patterson AFB. One-hundred sixty-two civilian and military trainees completed a 113 item survey containing 7 outcome scales based on Kraiger's (1993) cognitive, skill based and affective training outcomes. Additional criteria, including experience, training, attitudinal, personality, and organizational support factors, were evaluated for their influence on training outcomes. Results from intercorrelational and hierarchical regression analysis strongly supported the theoretical model of effective facilitator training and suggest that the Wright-Patt Campus does provide effective TQM facilitator training. This study also identified several factors that appear to contribute to improved facilitator effectiveness: …
The Effects Of Managerial Succession On Air Force Members, Todd M. Young
The Effects Of Managerial Succession On Air Force Members, Todd M. Young
Theses and Dissertations
Managerial succession causes disruption that impacts the incoming leader and members of the organization. Yet, surprisingly, there has been little research investigating the effects of succession on Air Force members. This study investigated four typical reactions to succession that seemed likely to be experienced by most employees. They included changes in: (1) member's attitudes about their job, (2) member's attitudes about their leader's behavior, (3) member's behavior on the job, and (4) the leader's behavior (as observed by the members). The mean responses of workers from organizations that had recently experienced succession (i.e., the supervisor has been in place for …
A Statistical Analysis Of Variables Related To Officer Retention, Gerald A. Scheuchner
A Statistical Analysis Of Variables Related To Officer Retention, Gerald A. Scheuchner
Theses and Dissertations
The overall objective of this research effort was to statistically analyze survey responses which indicate the extent to which exiting officers say different variables affected their decision to separate. Two surveys were utilized for this analysis. These surveys were administered by the Air Force Personnel and Survey Branch in 1991 and 1993. The first analysis tested whether significant differences existed between rated and non-rated officers with regard to how strongly they feel about each of the variables with respect to their separation decision. The second analysis tested whether significant differences existed between the rated and the non-rated officers respectively, with …

Empowerment As An Organizational Tool For Increasing Competitiveness: A Case Study, Carl D. Sweet
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the use of employee empowerment as a means of improving organizational competitiveness in the marketplace. The methodology used is a case study of a small, private-sector company that used this strategy to improve its productivity, product quality and profitability. The results of this research were then examined to determine whether the successful practices identified in this organization can be applied to Air Force attempts to adopt employee empowerment. The paper summarizes the organizational characteristics generally present where employee empowerment has been successfully implemented, as reported in current management literature, including the following: (1) company culture conducive to …
Recruitment Analysis Of Air Force Family Day Care Providers, Kimberly A. Rowe
Recruitment Analysis Of Air Force Family Day Care Providers, Kimberly A. Rowe
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is a qualitative, exploratory research effort which seeks to identify the motivators which influence Air Force Family Day Care (FDC) providers at Wright-Patterson AFB to enter and exit the FDC program. Two instruments were developed to measure the degree to which current and former FDC providers were influenced by various motivators identified through literature review and professional observation. Further, this thesis presents the results of the recruitment instrument which indicate the providers in the Wright-Patterson AFB FDC program are primarily motivated by their desire to remain home with their own children. The results also indicate there may be …
Procrastination As A Predictor Of Job Performance, Steven L. Dutschmann
Procrastination As A Predictor Of Job Performance, Steven L. Dutschmann
Theses and Dissertations
It is generally accepted that everyone puts off or delays doing tasks to some extent; however, little is known about how different styles affect job performance. Individual differences in goal orientation (tendency to set goals and objectives), conscientiousness (thoroughness and carefulness in performing a task), autonomy (freedom, independence, and discretion in scheduling work), and temperament (manner of thinking, behaving, and reacting) may have an influence on how efficiently and effectively people prioritize their tasks (or avoid tasks), and thus have an effect on job performance. This study examined the possible importance of procrastination in the workplace, and its effect on …

Determinants Of Ceo Pay: A Critical Assessment, W. Otto Carroll
Determinants Of Ceo Pay: A Critical Assessment, W. Otto Carroll
Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration
This research expands the study of determinants of CEO pay. Previous studies have found conflicting results regarding the importance of firm size and firm performance in influencing the amount of CEO compensation. Other studies are incomplete with respect to the measurement of both executive pay and its determinants. Traditional theories of executive compensation such as equity theory, expectancy theory, human capital and labor market theory provide the starting point for determinants of CEO pay. However, to more fully understand these determinants, the model includes a test of agency theory showing the relationship between board control and pay. It tests the …

Toward Understanding Team Leadership: The Empirical Development Of A Team Leadership Classification System, Brian J. Ruggeberg
Toward Understanding Team Leadership: The Empirical Development Of A Team Leadership Classification System, Brian J. Ruggeberg
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to develop a classification system of team leadership through the empirical process of numerical classification. Although the value and importance of leadership have been recognized in the team literature, few empirical studies have been conducted to understand the phenomenon of team leadership. A thorough review of the relevant literature was conducted to identify the various behaviors, functions, traits, and KSAOs associated with team leadership. This information was then used to select and construct data collection instruments for the classification process.
Two separate studies were conducted to achieve the overall goal of developing a team …

The Effects Of Environment Dynamism And Heterogeneity On Salespeople's Role Perceptions, Performance And Job Satisfaction, Ravipreet S. Sohi
The Effects Of Environment Dynamism And Heterogeneity On Salespeople's Role Perceptions, Performance And Job Satisfaction, Ravipreet S. Sohi
Department of Marketing: Faculty Publications
This article develops a structural equations model which examines the effects of environmental dynamism and heterogeneity on salespeople’s role conflict, role ambiguity, performance and job satisfaction. The model is tested with EQS, using data collected from 230 salespeople in multiple companies and industries. Indicates that environmental dynamism reduces satisfaction and performance, and increases role conflict and ambiguity. Notes that environmental heterogeneity also reduces performance and increases role conflict, but does not have a significant effect on role ambiguity.

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 4: Women As Leaders, Leonie V. Still
Research outputs pre 2011
Leadership is a term that is not normally associated with women. This is despite the fact that throughout history women have often played a prominent role. Those that have gained prominence have done so in four main ways (Apfelbaum and Hadley, 1986):
• through charismatic leadership: the unique example being Joan of Arc.
• through inherited leadership positions: examples include the women who become heads of family businesses or queens by succeeding to monarchs.
• through the achievement of professional eminence: women who become leading figures in their disciplines because of their professional and / or scientific achievements - examples …

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 7: Gender Issues In Management Education: Redressing The Imbalance, Catherine R. Smith, Barbara Vitoria
Research outputs pre 2011
In 1992 the Federal government appointed an Industry Task Force on Leadership and Management Skills !hereinafter referred to as the Task Force) to review Australia's management and leadership capabilities, and advise on measures to strengthen management practices, in an effort to improve economic performance. An international leadership expert advising the Task Force alleged that 'corporate Australia's Achilles' heel' is its all-male monoculture, whose 'rugby-serum mentality' makes boardroom entry difficult for women, and non-traditional men who do not fit the stereotypically masculine image IMant, 1994:3). Mant emphasised that, because new ideas result from diversity, Australian management culture needs to embrace a …

Brave New World? Women And Part-Time Employment: The Impact On Career Prospects And Employment Relations, Leonie V. Still
Brave New World? Women And Part-Time Employment: The Impact On Career Prospects And Employment Relations, Leonie V. Still
Research outputs pre 2011
Part-time employment is a growing segment of the labour force, a trend that has been discernible in all OECD countries over the past thirty years (Thurman and Trah, 1990). According to Burgess, Gleisner and Rasmussen (1996,p95), part-time employment growth has been widespread across all sectors, occupations and demographic groups. Both Australia and New Zealand have recorded such a growth in the numbers of part-time workers and a growing part-time employment share, that nearly one quarter of the workforce in both countries is employed on a part-time basis. Among OECD countries Australia is one of the larger employers of part-time labour, …

Motivation Of Student Employees In The Financial Aid Office At The College Of Saint Benedict, Terra Ohlhauser
Honors Theses, 1963-2015
This thesis examines the effectiveness of the motivational practices used at the Financial Aid Office at the College of Saint Benedict and provides suggestions for ways to further motivate student employees. Information was gathered through interviews with the student employees and from the results of the Job Diagnostic Survey which was administered to the students. Positive factors in this workplace included the all-female environment, a feeling of group belonging, the amount of responsibility given to students, and the amount of appreciation shown and rewards given to the students. There are four primary areas that need to be examined or improved …
