Slim Quick Keto       When the body has the ability to burn fat as fuel, the liver naturally creates fats called ketones. Ketones can provide energy more efficiently than carbs can, which, in turn, stokes the body’s fat-burning FIRE and creates a balanced environment for maintaining healthy cells, mitochondria and bodily function.

The Demand For Agricultural Research By State Governments, Jyoti Khanna, Wallace E. Huffman, Todd Sandler Dec 1990

The Demand For Agricultural Research By State Governments, Jyoti Khanna, Wallace E. Huffman, Todd Sandler

Economic Staff Paper Series

Public agricultural research in the United States is conducted by state agricultural experiment stations (SAES) and by the research agencies of the USDA. Both have research activities in every state. A vast amount of research and experiments has shown that the performance of plants and to a lesser extent animals, in which new technologies are frequently embodied, is altered by local geoclimatic conditions that differ within and between states. Basic research and livestock research to some extent lead to new knowledge or technologies that spill widely across state boundaries. Thus, public agricultural research produces knowledge that is both state specific ...

Risk And Return On Real Estate: Evidence From Equity Reits, K. C. Chan, Patrick H. Hendershott, Anthony B. Sanders

Business Economics and Public Policy Papers

We analyze monthly returns on an equally weighted index of eighteen to twenty-three equity (real property) real estate investment trusts (REITs) that were traded on major stock exchanges over the 1973–87 period. We employ a multifactor Arbitrage Pricing Model using prespecified macroeconomic factors. We also test whether equity REIT returns are related to changes in the discount on closed-end stock funds, which seems plausible given the closed-end nature of REITs.

Three factors, and the percentage change in the discount on closed-end stock funds, consistently drive equity REIT returns: unexpected inflation and changes in the risk and term structures of ...

Review Of Eisenhower Versus `The Spenders': The Eisenhower Administration, The Democrats And The Budget, 1953-60 By Iwan W. Morgan, Ann Mari May Dec 1990

Review Of Eisenhower Versus `The Spenders': The Eisenhower Administration, The Democrats And The Budget, 1953-60 By Iwan W. Morgan, Ann Mari May

College of Business Faculty Publications

The 1950s have often been characterized as a period outstanding only for its banality, when the head of state "preferred golf to government" (p. I). Historians have reconstructed Dwight Eisenhower's leadership style but have given scant attention to the evolution of economic policy during the 1950s and to his role in fiscal policy formation. Iwan Morgan's Eisenhon,er Versus ‘The Spenders’ goes far in filling this void and provides an insightful, interesting discussion of fiscal policy formation during the Eisenhower years.

For many economic historians, the 1950s seems to have been a nonevent sandwiched between the New Deal-Fair ...

Company Paternalism And The Hidden-Investment Process: Identification Of The “Right Type” For Line Managers In Leading Japanese Organizations, Mary Uhl-Bien, Pamela S. Tierney, George B. Graen, Mitsuru Wakabayashi Dec 1990

Company Paternalism And The Hidden-Investment Process: Identification Of The “Right Type” For Line Managers In Leading Japanese Organizations, Mary Uhl-Bien, Pamela S. Tierney, George B. Graen, Mitsuru Wakabayashi

Management Department Faculty Publications

This study investigates belief in company paternalism as an indicator of the “right type” for line managers in leading Japanese corporations. In five companies, 1,075 line managers were surveyed about their belief in company paternalism, their experience with both the formal and informal career-development systems within their company, their working relationships with their immediate superior (LMX), and their overall job satisfaction. Results indicated that belief in company paternalism contributed as hypothesized to formal career investments, informal career investments (including both self-investment and supervisor investment), LMX, and overall job satisfaction. These relationships held true both before and after experiences with ...

The Differences Between Industrial And Municipal Executives' Practices And Perceptions Of An Npdes Water Pollution Control System In Tennessee, Anthony L. Fulkerson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between industrial and municipal executives' practices and perceptions toward the administrative requirements of a water pollution control system as set forth in a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. This was a descriptive study that utilized a two-part attitudinal survey designed to obtain the perceptions of the executives (N = 171) of all major industries and all major municipalities in the State of Tennessee who had direct responsibility for the administrative requirements of an NPDES permitted water pollution control system. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of data with the ...

Negotiability, Property, And Identity, James S. Rogers Dec 1990

Negotiability, Property, And Identity, James S. Rogers

Boston College Law School Faculty Papers

In this Article, Professor Rogers challenges the assumption that securities transfer law has always been based on negotiable certificates and suggests that the reign of negotiability is a relatively recent, and brief, phase in the long history of investment securities trading. Professor Rogers posits that the difficulties currently facing the law of securities transfers are in large part due to the transition from paper to electronic representations of investments. To place these challenges into perspective, Professor Rogers first surveys the history of securities trading and then examines the theoretical underpinnings of the law of securities transfers.

Do Tournaments Have Incentive Effects?, Ronald G. Ehrenberg, Michael L. Bognanno Dec 1990

Do Tournaments Have Incentive Effects?, Ronald G. Ehrenberg, Michael L. Bognanno

Articles and Chapters

Much attention has been devoted to studying models of tournaments or situations in which an individual's payment depends only on his or her output or rank relative to that of other competitors. Academic interest derives from the fact that under certain sets of assumptions, tournaments have desirable normative properties because of the incentive structures they provide. Our paper uses nonexperimental data to test whether tournaments actually elicit effort responses. We focus on professional golf tournaments because information on the incentive structure (prize distribution) and measures of individual output (players' scores) are both available. We find strong support for the ...

"The enactment of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) produced the most extensive legislation in the area of employment law in the United States in two decades (i.e., since the adoption of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1970). Its provisions affect every employer and every job seeker since the law went into effect on November 6, 1986. Among its multiple provisions were strictures designed to prohibit employers from hiring illegal immigrants. This action had the effect of repealing the 'Texas Proviso' of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 that specifically exempted the employment ...

Effects Of Three Organizational Policies On Individuals’ Attitudes About Drug Testing, Alan Walker Dec 1990

Effects Of Three Organizational Policies On Individuals’ Attitudes About Drug Testing, Alan Walker

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The consensus of recent literature appears to be that drug testing is both legal and valid. However, a testing program can meet legal and technical criteria and still fail to meet organizational objectives because one vital component has been left out – employees’ attitudes. The present study uses data from 148 college juniors and seniors to assess the effects of three hypothetical drug testing policies: (a) consequences of detected drug use (termination vs. rehabilitation), (b) timing of the program (expected interval vs. random interval vs. reasonable cause), and (c) business purpose (weak vs. strong) on attitudes toward drug testing. It was ...

An Estimation Of Human Capital Loss Resulting From Subversive Deaths Due To The Northern Ireland Conflict, Brian Armour

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Conflict entails numerous sacrifices in human resources in addition to loss of life, while it is difficult to appraise the real cost of conflict, one can determine the number of fatalities. It is the primary goal of this thesis to develop an accounting technique by which the human capital cost of fatalities due to the Northern Ireland Conflict may be measured in an accepted unit of account. While the development of a model for measuring human capital loss is in itself an important part of the study, the ultimate objective is to arrive at an estimate of the human capital ...

The Information Content Of Standard & Poor's Common Stock Ranking Changes, James Felton

Theses and Dissertations

This study examines the information content of Standard & Poor's common stock ranking changes. The eight rankings are as follows: A+ (Highest), A (High), A- (Above Average), B+ (Average), B (Below Average), B- (Lower), C (Lowest), and D (In Reorganization). The Importance Of Recruitment In Job Choice: A Different Way Of Looking, Sara L. Rynes, Robert D. Bretz Jr., Barry A. Gerhart

CAHRS Working Paper Series

Recent literature reviews have called into question the impact of recruitment activities on applicants' job choices. However, most previous findings have been based on cross-sectional ratings obtained immediately after initial screening interviews, thus raising questions about the degree to which prior conclusions are bound to that particuJar methodology. In contrast, the present study used longitudinal structured interviews to let job seekers explain, in their own words, how they made critical job search and choice decisions. Interview transcripts revealed that recruitment practices played a variety of roles in job seeker decisions. For example, consistent with signalling theory, subjects interpreted a wide ...

Personnel/Human Resources Management: A Political Influence Perspective, Gerald R. Ferris, Timothy A. Judge Nov 1990

Personnel/Human Resources Management: A Political Influence Perspective, Gerald R. Ferris, Timothy A. Judge

CAHRS Working Paper Series

It was suggested over ten years ago that new and different perspectives needed to be applied to the Personnel/Human Resources Management field in an effort to (P /HRM) promote theory and research and expand our understanding of the dynamics underlying P/HRM processes. Both theory and research are emerging which characterize important P/HRM decisions and activities substantially influenced by opportunistic behavior of both subordinates and supervisors. The purpose of the present review is to systematically examine the P/HRM field from a political influence perspective, reviewing existing theory and research and discussing future directions.
