The meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) industry generates billions of dollars in direct and indirect spending annually, and is considered one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism industry. Destinations that want to capitalize on this industry must understand what drives its planners. The current study used Orlando, Florida as a case study, and investigated whether there are differences between the three meeting planners' types (association, corporate, 3rd party) in regards to destination selection attributes and the recent recession impact. This report summarizes the economic parameters of a children's park for Universal City and/or Orlando, Florida. Two pro forma iterations were included, first a freestanding attraction and second an integrated element within the existing studio attractions. Prototypes and comparatives used as references for the free-standing attraction were Legoland in Denmark, Sesame Place in Philadelphia, and Castle Park in Riverside, California. Facilities used in this manner for the in-park children's attraction were Camp Snoopy in Buena Park at Knott's Berry Farm, Capt'n. A mini-charrette was conducted by the Harrison Price Company (HPC) for the Disney Development Company to determine if a performing arts center at Disney World was a sound idea and how best to do it. Performing arts venues in Ashland, Oregon and Chautauqua, New York were selected as frames of reference for a proposed new performing arts facility at Disney World in Florida. HPC drew conclusions from the charrette discussion and the perspectives are expressed in the report.

In 1980, prior to the completion of EPCOT, a major study was conducted to measure potential interest in visiting both, Universal Studios Tour in Orlando and EPCOT, and how these parks would impact existing attractions. The 1980 study was conducted over several months amongst 1,021 overnight visitors to Orlando, and utilized verbal descriptions and audio tapes to describe both the Universal concept and that of EPCOT. The results of the 1980 study indicated extremely high interest in both Universal and EPCOT, and strong opportunity for both attractions.
