Lo Cotidiano: A Key Element Of Mujerista Theology, Ada María Isasi-Díaz Aug 2002

Lo Cotidiano: A Key Element Of Mujerista Theology, Ada María Isasi-Díaz

Journal of Hispanic / Latino Theology

Working with Latinas at the grassroots demonstrates that the true horizon of liberation, for women and for the community, opens from the level of everyday life and its struggles, en lo cotidiano. Even where liberation is figured in terms of structural transformation, the author urges theology to follow the insights of ordinary women: Structural change “must be rooted in lo cotidiano. Unless the changes we struggle to bring about impact the organization and function of lo cotidiano, structural change will not happen, and, if it happens, it will not last."

Conjoined Twins And Catholic Moral Analysis: Extraordinary Means And Casuistical Consistency, M. Cathleen Kaveny

M. Cathleen Kaveny

This article draws upon the Roman Catholic distinction between “ordinary” and “extraordinary” means of medical treatment to analyze the case of “Jodie” and “Mary,” the Maltese conjoined twins whose surgical separation was ordered by the English courts over the objection of their Roman Catholic parents and Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the Roman Catholic Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster. It attempts to shed light on the use of that distinction by surrogate decision makers with respect to incompetent patients. In addition, it critically analyzes various components of the distinction by comparing the reasoning used by Catholic moralists in this case with the reasoning used …

Interreligious Dialogue In Global Perspective, Lawrence E. Frizzell D.Phil. Jan 2002

Interreligious Dialogue In Global Perspective, Lawrence E. Frizzell D.Phil.

Selected Works of Lawrence E. Frizzell

The tensions between religions and political systems have been evident in intellectual and cultural contexts throughout human experience. In past ages, there has been a propensity for each culture or religion to assume that it embodied the best in every aspect of the human order. There is no longer any excuse for such narrowness spawned of ignorance to dominate the thinking of educated people. Yet mere tolerance of other approaches to the common challenges of humanity will not provide security for all, especially for minorities within a culture or for weaker societies in a given region striving to maintain their …
