The In-Service Training Of Sunday School Personnel, Walter J. Schott May 1960

The In-Service Training Of Sunday School Personnel, Walter J. Schott

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The purpose of this study was to investigate the present importance and examine the potential values of the Sunday school workers' conference as a major technique used for general in-service training of Sunday school personnel.

Secular education is constantly striving to improve its academic standards. Christian education is becoming more aware of the need to improve its standards, but still there are areas of training whose resources have been barely tapped.

The work of Sunday school is maintaining by lay members who voluntarily give of their time and effort for the cause of Christ and the church. Many of these …

A History Of The Montana District Council Of The Assemblies Of God, Harry S. Garrett May 1960

A History Of The Montana District Council Of The Assemblies Of God, Harry S. Garrett

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

One of the important and distinct expressions of protestant denominational life in the United States in the Twentieth century is the group called the Assemblies of God. The Assemblies of God have had a rapid growth in organization. In some instances the organizational life lagged behind its numerical growth. Such was the case in the state of Montana. Churches organized in this state were attached to two other Districts, the main portions of which were located in other states. It was finally deemed necessary and wise to organize a new district which would be called the Montana District Council of …

An Evangelical Approach To The Problem Of Knowing And Doing The Basic Principles Of Christian Conduct, Roland R. Strutz May 1960

An Evangelical Approach To The Problem Of Knowing And Doing The Basic Principles Of Christian Conduct, Roland R. Strutz

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

In the declaration of Jesus, at the conclusions of His great Sermon on the Mount, there are two words that merit special attention, "heareth" and "doeth". The problem of determining right and wrong is of an extremely serious nature because few people recognize the contrast between the secularized standards of the age and the moral principles of Christianity. In America particularly, both those in the church and those outside its fold harbor the vague illusion that the common life of man is Christian. This should be problem enough. Yet it is with deep concern that this author has noted definite …

The Pastor's Responsibility In Training The Sunday School Superintendent, Delbert M. Keller May 1960

The Pastor's Responsibility In Training The Sunday School Superintendent, Delbert M. Keller

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The purpose of this study has been to determine the need for, and construct a program of training applied directly to the office of Sunday school superintendent in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The superintendent is the key man in the work of the Sunday school by virtue of his position and responsibilities. An effective superintendent must be able to understand the position which he occupies. As an officer of the church and a representative of its teaching ministry, he must be able to adequately fulfill his duties if the Sunday school is to be …

A Study Of The Use Of The Word "Law" In Paul's Epistle To The Romans, Donald D. Clark May 1960

A Study Of The Use Of The Word "Law" In Paul's Epistle To The Romans, Donald D. Clark

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

There are Orthodox Jews today, as in their early history, who still place their hope of righteousness in various laws, rituals, and ceremonies. This became quite evident as the writer took his basic training during the winter of 1959 at the u. s. Army's basic school for Chaplains.

The problem was further intensified by the fact that the writer has found this problem to be a part of many individuals' experiences. There are many of his associates of the Protestant faith who place their hope of righteousness in particular aspects of the law. Some feel that works merit salvation. The …

An Evangelical Approach To The Problem Of The Antiquity Of Man In The Light Of Biblical And Scientific Evidence, Richard T. Burdine May 1960

An Evangelical Approach To The Problem Of The Antiquity Of Man In The Light Of Biblical And Scientific Evidence, Richard T. Burdine

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Some contemporary Evangelical views concerning the antiquity of man are problematic in the light of modern scientific claims. Science presents a view of the age of man that is different from that presented by some scholars who feel they are representing the Biblical view. The sciences tend to look upon man as being hundred of thousands of years old. Some Biblical scholars feel that such a view is out of harmony with the Scriptures. The purpose of this study is to present an evangelical approach to the problem of the antiquity of man in the light of Biblical and scientific …

A Biblical Study Of The Lordship Of Christ, Hal J. May May 1960

A Biblical Study Of The Lordship Of Christ, Hal J. May

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

This is an inductive study of the scriptures in an attempt to understand the true nature of the Lordship of Christ. The Apostle Paul, the Historic Confessions of Faith, and the modern Protestant ecumenical movement have all held the phrase "Christ is Lord" as an essential element of the Christian Faith. Because there are many divergent opinions concerning its meaning and nature, it is essential that the scriptures be examined to ascertain the true concept of the Lordship of Christ, and how man is related to it.

The Pastor's Responsibility In Training The Sunday School Superintendent, Delbert M. Keller

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

During the past few years, this writer has become interested in studying in the area of Christian Education. This study has brought about a keen awareness of certain practical problems pertaining to such education in general, as well as awareness to specific needs in the Sunday school as it exists today. The Sunday school has always been staffed with willing workers who are aware of the importance of this organization in the total program of the church. These willing workers have done what they find they are able to do, and God has blessed them for their efforts. It is …

An Examination Of The Junior Church And Corporate Worship As Methods Of Training Children To Worship, Allen C. Odell May 1960

An Examination Of The Junior Church And Corporate Worship As Methods Of Training Children To Worship, Allen C. Odell

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Today a great deal of discussion is going on among church leaders as to the value of graded worship as a means of training children to worship. This discussion is not new for as early as 1872, the question of graded literature came up. At the turn of the century the public school system began to place greater emphasis on grading and educational psychology. This stimulated a change in religious education from a Sunday School that had everyone in the same room using the same literature to a departmental Sunday School. The departmental Sunday School divided the children into age …

The In-Service Training Of Sunday School Personnel, Walter J. Schott

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

A thoughtful businessman remarked that he had discovered a new reason for believing that a church is a divine institution. "No other enterprise," he said, "could survive if managed so haphazardly." This statement is so true of the Sunday school. Generally speaking this school is an agency within the church, yet inseparable from t.he church whole. The Sunday school is more than a business enterprise. It is and basically should be a soul saving station, but it is also an educational institution. The affairs with which it must deal, should be of sufficient importance to be efficiently and effectively handled.

A Study Of Christian Praise, Ronald Gene Debock Apr 1960

A Study Of Christian Praise, Ronald Gene Debock

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The function of praise has taken so many forms that its place in theology today is unclear. In some circles within the Christian framework it seems to this writer to have been almost unwanted. On the other hand, some of the more exaggerated forms of praise have been associated with emotionalism. The Christian believer who seeks a proper balance in this regard, whether in his private worship or in the worship services of his local church, needs to understand the scope of Christian praise as it is taught in the Scriptures and in common experience.

A Survey Of Adult Membership Training Experiences For Evangelical United Brethren, Frank W. Wooldridge Apr 1960

A Survey Of Adult Membership Training Experiences For Evangelical United Brethren, Frank W. Wooldridge

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Hardly a week passes in most communities surrounding a major metropolitan center that a new family does not move into town. No longer does the cleric or lay worker need to look to distant fields for those who are not being challenged by the Gospel. As they came into the new community, they brought in addition to their household goods, their former church attitudes. They were Baptists, Congregationalists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, Nazarenes, Penticostals, and Presbyterians. When they moved into the community served by the Evangelical United Brethren Church, they became the responsibility of the local church in that community.
