Drum Rhythms And Golden Scriptures: Reasons For Mormon Conversion Within Haiti’S Culture Of Vodou, Catherine S. Freeman

My paper compares Haitian Vodou and Mormonism to address why over twenty-four-thousand Haitians have converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since the 1980s. It might sound strange to compare these two religions, considering that Mormonism was founded by a white farmer from the United States during America’s Early Republic and Haitian Vodou was born from the oppression of African slaves during the years of Spanish and French colonization. Yet Mormonism continues to grow in popularity among Haitians. Scholars have not yet fully explored why people of African descent whose cultural background is rooted in Vodou are …

This thesis engages with two strands of commentary on Jamaica Kincaid and colonialism. One centers on the legacies of colonialism, focusing particularly on the hegemony of the English language and the problem of representation that is exacerbated by the female figures of the monarchy, while the other focuses on Kincaid's representation of female relationships (particularly mother-daughter relationships) alongside references and allusions to the English canon.

A study of God’s will towards gay sex within loving and committed gay unions based on exegetical scholarship and the lived experienced of gay Christians. Over 350 gay Christians were surveyed for this work, and their experiences are reflected in the conclusions of this paper. This work also investigated the relevant Biblical texts, paying close attention to the use of language and historical critical aspects of exegesis.
